I stirred on and off throughout the night. My body was no longer shivering from the cold and instead a warm heat engulfed me. The heat was not coming from my body but another source. Whatever it was I attempted to shift even closer to it.
Everything still felt heavy. My arms, my legs, my eyes, my whole body felt as if it were weighed down. Ever so slowly that heat removed some of the pressure. My body still hurt but not to the same extent it once had.
I was still in a lot of pain but I finally felt like I could move again.
Being more conscious than I had been the first few times I awoke, I sleepily opened my eyes. The space around me was mostly dark except for a soft glow in front of me. My eyes mindlessly scanned the surrounding area. I may be still inside the cave but did not recognize where. I was leaning up against something hard that must have been the cave wall.
The glow before my eyes was admitting a strong heat. Without a second thought, I leisurely sat up a bit stretching my arm outward to capture the source of warmth.
Before my hand could reach out and grab it, something shot out from behind me pulling both my hand and waist back.
A gasp left my throat and the sleepiness was instantly replaced with adrenaline. There was a hand around my waist holding me against what I had once assumed was the cave wall. The other hand had stopped mine just before it touched the glow.
"What are you doing?" His voice was low but concerned.
It took me a moment to put two and two together. The hands holding onto me were covered by black gloves. Looking past the hand on my waist I also noticed a pair of legs under me. It appeared he had placed me on his lap.
The familiarity of the voice caused my whole body to relax and I leaned right back into him. His hand let go of my own when he realized I was no longer attempting to grab anything, but the other remained tightly wrapped around my waist.
My head hit, what I soon realized to be his chest, with a thump.
I sighed a big wave of relief flooding me. For a moment I took the time to let my eyes adjust. I now recognized that bright light to be the burning flames of a small fire. The flames lit up the place enough for me to be certain we were still in the caves. Even with that thought in mind I no longer felt as concerned.
Capitano had come for me after all.
No matter what happened now I was safe. With Capitano by my side the two of us would make it out of here.
