Scaramouche did not come back after walking out.
It was the middle of the night now and I found myself still lying awake staring at the ceiling. Today had been an eventful day and in truth I didn't think I was going to get much rest.
With that in mind I sat up out of bed and dangled my legs off the side.
To think I had been brought to the world of Teyvat and was captured by the harbingers. Out of all nations they could have put me they threw me in Snezhnaya. I could have ended up somewhere more peaceful like Liyue but instead I was here and now I had to put up with it.
To make things worse I had gotten paired up with Scaramouche.
Well actually... Scaramouche had walked off so really what was stopping me from making my great escape?
My eyes flickered toward the window and pushing myself up from bed I walked toward it.
I pulled the curtain over and looked outside. It was very snowy out but we weren't high up, this was only the first floor of a small building. If I wanted to I could open the window up and jump right out. The snow would probably cushion my fall.
I pulled the curtains back further and unlocked the window latch. Just as I was about to open the window a flash from the distance caught my eye. I held onto the window latch as I slowly looked toward the side of the building. The flash of light that I had seen was actually an object...
And it was now sticking out of the side of the building...
My heart dropped into my chest and I let go of the latch. Sticking out of the side of the building was a blue needle.
I didn't need anymore information than that to know I was still being watched. The Tsaritsa must have known Scaramouche would be careless and sent another harbinger to watch over things. Out of all the harbingers she had sent, I had absolutely no interest in dealing with him.
Taking a step away I quickly closed the curtains. I could feel his eyes watching me up until then.
Seems I may have been better off with Scaramouche. Unless I wanted to turn into some experiment, which I really didn't.
I stepped further away from the windows and turned away, heading for the room door.
I knew going to look for him probably wouldn't do me any good but neither was sitting here all by myself.
I opened up the door and walked into the hall. If I were Scaramouche where would I go?
I didn't really know the place well but I had remembered seeing a fireplace up front earlier.
I decided to take a walk to the front of the building. I walked slowly keeping my movements light just in case he was there. As I made it to the end of the hallway I peeked out into the main area.
As I had suspected, I spotted Scaramouche siting by the fireplace. There was no one else around now, it appears that everyone had already gone to bed including the owner.
Well at least I knew where Scaramouche was now.
I just wasn't sure if I wanted to approach him. What would I even say? We hadn't exactly had the best start to our meeting. Plus Scaramouche was hard headed, rude, and stubborn. At least thats how he was an a harbinger. I wonder if the 'Wanderer' that many knew him as in the future, was just concealling his decency even now.
"Are you just planning on staring at me all night?"
His voice was loud and clear. My heart dropped at the realization that I had been caught.
I cleared my throat stepping into the room.
"No," I answered, "I just wasn't sure whether you wanted space or not."
Scaramouche rolled his eyes but didn't look over at me.
"I'm fine, what is it that you want? Shouldn't you be sleeping?" He asked coldly.
I let out a small laugh, "Would you be sleeping after getting captured and stuck with a harbinger?"
"It could be worse," He replied, "You should be grateful you ended up with me and not someone else."
I thought about it for a moment, "Yea like who?"
"The Doctor," Scaramouche answered bitterly.
I didn't miss the flash of anger on his face at the mention of Dottore. Ah... I forgot those two had history. Dottore had caused him a lot of trouble and there was probably more that wasn't revealed in the game.
"You know... you may be right. He seems like the type that would just kill me."
I took a few steps toward Scaramouche making my way toward the fireplace.
"It would be a long drawn out death if he decided to. He'd make sure you suffered first." Scaramouche replied.
I stopped just in front of the fire. Scaramouche finally looked up acknowledging my precense.
"I'm sure he would. He doesn't seem to be the empathetic type. Speaking of... heres a little tip for you. It seems the Tsaritsa sent him to babysit."
Scaramouches eyes hardened, "Tch... I had a feeling someone was watching. To think it was him. Does she take me for a fool?"
I could only shrug at that one.
I mean I did try to escape while he was gone... had Dottore not thrown a syringe I probably would have left.
"He won't stay long. I'm sure he has better things to do with his time than observe us, espesically when we leave."
"Leave?" I asked curiously.
Scaramouche nodded, "We'll be leaving for Sumeru soon."
My heart rate sped up a bit.
Wait a moment... if we were leaving for Sumeru... this meant Scaramouches plan was already in motion.
Does that mean I'd get to witness his change?
"Sumeru?" I questioned further.
He nodded his head but didn't elaborate any further.
He seemed to be in his own world now. He must have had a lot of planning to do for all of this to work. I was surprised he was actually going to bring me with him. Now the thought on my mind was, what would happen since I had entered the picture? Would his fate remain the same? Or maybe... something would change.
