The both of us felt a bit relieved after Dottore had left.
I couldn't help but let out a sigh.
I knew this wouldn't be the final time we saw him but at least we'd have some peace for now.
Scaramouche walked a bit ahead of me. I could tell that his mind wasn't here though. He must have been thinking about Dottores appearance. He knew just as well as I did, that it spelled trouble.
Sumeru would be an interesting trip.
After all, when I had played Genshin that had been Dottores first official introduction.
I couldn't help but shiver a bit.
"Do you think he'll follow us to Sumeru?" I asked deciding to speak up.
Scaramouches head turned back a bit and his eyes flickered toward me.
"That would be petty, but not below him."
His response was colder than usual but I had already known bringing up Dottore would be a touchy subject for him.
"I could see him doing it. He is quite fascinated with you after all."
Scaramouche remained silent at that comment.
We both knew why that was, but neither of us would admit it and as far as he was aware I had no clue about their history.
So with that in mind, I'd continue on as if I knew nothing but what I was told.
"You would think by now he'd find something better to do. Why is he so persistent?" I inquired further.
Scaramouche looked away his attention now focused on the forest ahead of us.
"When he finds something entertaining, he latches onto it. He will use them to the fullest and only once you are dead will he then leave it be." Scaramouche explained.
"And I imagine that death would have to occur by his hands?"
"Preferably," Scaramouche replied, "He doesnt mind if its done by someone else, though he does take great pleasure in doing it himself."
The way he spoke sounded as if it were from experience. I could only imagine the horrors he had to witness being around that mad man.
"So you had better hope he doesn't catch an interest in you. Id suggest just staying quiet and out of his way." He said the last part sharply.
This caught my attention.
Was Scaramouche a bit concerned?
A small smile crept up my lips but I tried my best to suppress it.
"I understand. Ill try to keep my distance."
Scaramouche said nothing to that but I decided to speed up a bit to walk beside him.
The two of us walked in silence for a little.
Scaramouche still seemed bothered by what had occurred earlier, not that I blamed him.
But I had other things on my mind for now.
What would a trip with Scaramouche be like? He was pretty cold and didn't seem to have much interest in speaking. Would we just walk silently the whole time to Sumeru?
I hoped not.
I think I'd go a bit crazy if we just didn't speak a word.
But he wasn't much of a talker...
"Why are you staring at me?" Scaramouche asked his eyes flashing to glance at me.
My heart rate sped up a bit and I looked elsewhere quickly.
"Sorry," I mumbled out, "I was just thinking."
"About?"
I was surprised he wanted to know.
"The kind of person you are."
"Huh?" Scaramouche seemed a bit taken aback.
"Er I realized thats weird but the two of us will be travelling together now. I can't imagine saying nothing to you the whole trip." I elaborated.
He didn't immediately answer.
That was something I noticed about him. Sometimes he'd actually think about his answer. In this case, it usually wasn't for good reasons.
"I'm not sure how to respond to that." He answered, "It sounds ridiculous that you'd be interested in someone like me."
I wanted to say 'Well Dottore was' but decided to hold my tongue.
"Well..." I answered carefully, "We're stuck together. Wouldn't you also be curious if you were in my shoes?"
"Perhaps," Scaramouche replied.
"Like I said. We're stuck together now. May as well try to get used to it."
Scaramouche hummed in response but gave no indication of his response to that.
"So...why'd you join the fatui?"
Scaramouche looked at me again, "If you're quiet for the remainder of our walk maybe i'll tell you."
I laughed.
Sure he would... knowing him he'd probably pretend he never said that.
