A day before: during the incident of the burning building, a man named Robert Steinfeld was working with radioactive isotopes, transporting them to a lab in Manhattan. But on the route to his destination, he sees the fire, and Spider-Man trying to rescue people from the burning building. Seeing the superhero rescuing so many people was genuinely an incredible thing to witness..... however, at one point there was an explosion in the building. He knew he'd have to drive away from the incident so that the truck, and the isotopes within, wouldn't be destroyed.
Driving as fast as he can, Robert speeds ahead to get to his destination as safe as he could. Thankfully he got away without any damage..... however, the isotopes crack slightly.... potentially from heat exposure.....just enough heat exposure from being close enough to the building for an exposed amount of time? But Robert didn't notice this, driving to his destination. "Once I got this done, I can finally go home...." He muttered to himself with a hint of annoyance from the day.
Soon after, the exhausted radiation delivery driver reaches the garage and parks it in front of a port to transport the radioactive isotopes himself. Once inside, he gets signatures from the customers and sighs, feeling relieved to have gotten his job done. "Uh sir. I dunno if you realize this or not, but some of these are cracked." An employee said with a hint of frustration, knowing that they can't be used.
Robert walks up to the delivery he made, visibly confused by his statement. He inspects the isotopes carefully until he sees the cracks, and feels the heat coming from them. He knew what this meant. "I need to get these some place safe. Now!" He calls out, pressing on his chest as a suit forms on his body, seeming to protect him from the radiation as he quickly pushes the cart containing the isotopes in a hurry.
As the delivery driver rushes to find a secure place to dispose of them, he moves with frantic urgency and warns others to move out of the way because it wasn't safe yet. At one point, he trips and falls hard on the ground. He quickly stands back up and frantically rushes out, hearing a strange hissing sound afterwards. But he ignored it, feeling it was more important to dispose of the isotopes, especially since he knew it wouldn't be long before they'd blow up. At last, he finds a room and rushed inside, seeing a sink to properly dispose of the chemicals.. however, he noticed something.....he felt...... strangely lighter......as if some weight was relieved from his body. Then it hit him....the hissing sound he heard before......that was his suit...... having taken damage from something sharp when he tripped.
Realizing what was happening, Robert frantically presses on the chest plate of his suit so it'd fix itself, which was working.....but before it could fully fix itself, the isotopes exploded......with him still in the vicinity, and heavy amounts of radiation were already in him, and Robert screams in agony from the radiation intake.
The next day, Robert wakes up in a hospital, but he was inside some....metal contraption that he couldn't escape from......as if it was sealed shut. "Wait.....PLEASE TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON! I DON'T KNOW WHY I'M HERE!" He shouted frantically, becoming increasingly desperate to get out of this metal prison.
A doctor soon steps out, notepad in hand. "Ah, Mr. Steinfeld. You're awake. Quite frankly it's a miracle to me. My name is Doctor Sturges." He tells him calmly as he reads his notes. "You were exposed to that dangerous level of radiation and we don't know how stable you are. However, it's not looking good to me." He then concludes.
From inside, Robert felt something in him snap..... suddenly he started to feel a mix of emotions.....anger, confusion, sadness, hatred.....his entire life felt as if it was over. His career was over, all because of an accident......and it enraged him beyond recognition. So he starts banging on the door, screaming incoherently as he tries to get out of the containment unit holding him. He could feel the suit on his body, now useless since it wasn't protecting him from the radiation already inside of him. Without thinking, he fires a convebtraded blast of green radiation and frees himself.
Dr. Sturges backs away fearfully, unsure of how he did this. "Sir, you have to calm do-"
"DON'T TELL ME TO BE CALM?! YOURE TELLING ME YOU DON'T HAVE A CURE FOR THIS?!" Robert screams out as he walks towards the doctor, his expression twisted to insanity. "You're useless!" He shouted as he fires another blast of radiation at the doctor, disintegrating him instantly from the intensity of the blast. He then looks at his hands, horrified by what he's done. He then hears footsteps behind him and sticks his hands out. "Please! Don't come any closer!"
The man turned out to be Wilson Fisk himself, who stands at the doorframe. "Young Robert is it? You know who I am so we may as well skip the pleasentries while we're ahead......" He said with false kindness in his voice.
However, in his barely mentally functioning state, Robert didn't notice it was fake, too frantic to pay attention. "What do you want from me?" He asked with fear.
The corrupt mayor smirks. "I wish to assist you a little. My scientists are some of the greatest minds on the planet. But they would need time for a temporary fix.....a suit to contain the radiation enough to not harm people....unless you wish to control it." He tells the radioactive male. "All you would need to do in exchange? Is kill Spider-Man once and for all." He tells him.
Robert listened intently to Fisk's proposal, trying to list all of the pros and cons to a decision like this. He would be forced to work with scum like Fisk..... con. But.... maybe he could get his normal life back, permanently. Pro. Until then, he at least could have a suit to protect others from having radiation. Pro.... "Very well then Fisk. But you best put up your end of the bargain too. You help me? And in exchange I take down Spider-Man?" He asked with a hint of hesitation. He didn't want to destroy the web head who has been saving New York.......but he didn't want to be this radioactive monstrosity for the rest of his life either. "I'll do it......"
The next day, the present day, Robert was just finishing up getting his new suit fixed up, and Wilson watches as the new radioactive male comes out. "Very good Robert. You look intimidating in this." He compliments without hesitation.
Robert walks toward the door, every footstep heavy underneath him, yet he felt much more powerful than he ever was before. "My real name shouldn't be used when I'm in this suit..... instead....call me.....Nuclear."
(Editor's note: I had to make a new villain for our web slinging hero. Something fascinating to me at least. But anyway, I hope you're enjoying so far! :3)
