Me and Jacob have been best friends since first grade. We were inseparable, we always did everything together. From playing together to pranks we pulled on his twin sister. Evie was also my friend, but we never really boned as well as me and Jacob did.

But ever since me and Jacob went into high school, he became more and more distant from me. Never wanting to hang out with me. Ever time I try to talk to him he just ignores me and walks away from me.

I always wondered what I did to make him not want to spend time with me. After a while I just stop trying to talk to him. I just spent most of my time with Evie, unlike Jacob, she never stopped being my friend.

Over the course of High School I saw Jacob turn into this obnoxious jock, that we would always jokes about when we were in Middle School.

Where was the kind Jacob that I knew? Where was the Jacob that I could confine in? Where was the Jacob that made wise ass remarks? Where was the Jacob that made me laugh? Where was the Jacob that I loved?

"(Y/N)? (Y/N)?!" I hear Evie snap me out of my thoughts. We were sitting at the piano at her house, working on possible song options that we could do for the upcoming talent show at our school. Evie will be playing the piano while I will be singing.

"Yes, what is it?" I ask, Evie rolls her eyes. She gives me a stern look.

"We need to find a song that we could do!" Evie urgently says. I nod.

"Yeah, sorry," I say, feeling stupid. Evie pulled out her book of music sheets that she made herself.

"Now I was thinking we could do this song," Evie says and she flips to the song she picked.

"Adele's Set Fire to the Rain?" I ask, she nods.

"I think that it is the song that is the best song that you can sing," Evie says. I smile. But then Jacob came into the piano room. I look away from him.

"What is my dear sister up to," Jacob says, not even acknowledging my presents.

"Well me and (Y/N) are practicing for the talent show," Evie says making a fake smile, "do you want to hear our song?" I shake my head and mouth 'no'. Evie sees this. "(Y/ N), this will be perfect practice for us!"

"Fine," I grumble. Then Evie starts playing the song on her piano, and I start to sing. (The lyric video for Set Fire to the Rain is up top)

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming Out your name,
Your name

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together nothing gets better

'Cause there's a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say
They were never true, never true
And the games you play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name,
Your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
'Cause I knew that that was
The last time, the last time

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now when we're already over
I can't help myself from looking for you

I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming Out your name,
Your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames
Well, it felt something died
'Cause I knew that, that was the last time
The last time

Let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn

The song ended and Evie clapped her hands. But Jacob sat in his chair, a little shocked by how well I could sing.

"Wow," Jacob says a little shocked. I roll my eyes.

"Oh, so now you pay attention to me!" I nearly blow up on him. The anger bubbling up inside of me finally getting out, "unbelievable," I gather up my backpack."See you at school tomorrow, Evie," I say kindly to Evie but I glare at Jacob.

I walk out the door of their house, but rain was pouring outside. I didn't care I just walked in the rain. My (H/C) hair was getting soaked, and I think I feel my (E/C) eyes filling with tears. But I couldn't tell because of the rain.

"(Y/N)!" I hear Jacob calling for me but I keep walking, not wanting to talk to him. But then I feel Jacob spin me around, forcing me to look at him, "(Y/N) please talk to me," I scoff.

"You know what, do you know how much it hurts to have your best friend who was always by your side ignore you like the way you did? Do you?!" I cry out, "you shut me out of your life completely, and you never gave me a reason why!" Jacob sighs.

"You want the truth?" Jacob asks me, I nod, "at the beginning of Middle School I was picked on for being friends with you. It never got to me until the beginning of High School, I just got sick of it and I didn't want to deal with it anymore. So I just stopped talking to you,"

"You got picked on because of me?" I ask. He nods, I give him a hug, "I had no idea, I'm so sorry," I bury my head in his chest. Jacob wraps his arms around me.

I look up at him, and he kisses my lips gently. I was taken by surprise at first and then I close my eyes and I kiss him back. The stubble of his slightly growing beard brushes against my cheeks. His hands fall to my hips and he pulls me closer to him, deepening the kiss.

After about another minute Jacob pulls away, letting me breath. His forehead rests on mine. I place my hand to his cheek. Jacob caresses my cheek. Then he smirks.

"If we stay out here any longer we are going to get a cold," Jacob say. I smile, he takes my hand and we head back to his house.
