Natsu x Reader- Proposal

Requested by Yuki217, I know it isn't exactly what you requested but I think I did a pretty good job, well, here's to the first oneshot of the year and last request for this book

"Hey guys! What's up?!" You asked with a grin, your arms wrapping loosely around Natsu's neck in a surprise hug as your chin rested on his light pink hair. Natsu stiffened, not because he didn't enjoy the hug, no, but because he enjoyed it a little too much. Your sweet scent pervaded his senses as he tried to swallow the lump in his throat. You and Natsu joined the guild at around the same time when you were kids and you've been friends for years so this type of affection was common among the both of you. Though just a few months ago your scent became sweeter and sweeter over the weeks and that's when Natsu realized it, you were his mate. He didn't tell you, he knew that it wasn't right yet, but it was getting harder and harder to control himself every time you ran into each other.

"Hey (Y/N), back from your S-Class job?" Erza asked.
"Yup! It was a breeze, as always!" You grinned, you were one of the newest S-Class wizards, even though nobody actually won during the Tenrou Island Arc you absolutely insisted on doing a four on one between Erza, Mira, Gildarts and Laxus, though Gildarts left so it was just a three on one and you surprisingly held your own really well. So much so that Makarov allowed you to be granted the role of S-class. Natsu tried focusing on something else, anything else than you, but his eyes drifted to the bandages on your arm. Before he could think about what he was doing he grabbed your wrist to pull the bandages into focus.

"You got hurt." Natsu's eyebrows furrowed as he inspected the bandages, the scent of blood lingered slightly.

"Who did this?" Natsu asked you, you rolled your eyes.

"Just some guy who used some kind of knife magic, if I didn't put my arm up in time it would've hit me right between the eyes." You lifted your other hand to point at the space between your eyebrows.

"Where is he?" Natsu got up, ready to pummel whoever this guy was, you chuckled and rolled your eyes again.

"Deep in a dungeon serving his dues, along with the rest of his guild, don't worry about it. You might've had to protect me when we were kids but I'm S-class, remember? I can hold my own now, you don't need to protect me anymore, if anything I should be the one protecting you." That grin of yours never left your face as you reassured Natsu, who quickly became embarrassed.
"Yeah, well- I'm working on it! I'll be S-Class this year (Y/N)! You'll see!" Natsu declared.
"Alright, if you say so, who knows, maybe you'll have to face me as an opponent, but then again it's still a long ways away. Well I'm not going easy on you, y'know. I should get going, but I'll see you around?" You asked, Natsu nodded before you looked at the table, who all said their goodbyes, your face brightened and you waved before turning and walking away, Natsu groaned and sat down.

"Your dragon side was showing" Gray snickered.

"Oi, shut up you stripper!"
"I agree, your protectiveness over her is becoming more and more prominent each day."
"I know I just...I can't tell her...not yet..." Natsu muttered.

"Why not? You tell me all the time about how great she is and how much you love her why wouldn't you tell her?" Lucy asked confusedly.

"I need to become S-Class."
"Well that's going to take a lot of time Natsu, I don't think you'll be able to last that long."
"I need to become S-Class and that's exactly what I'm going to do." Natsu told Erza, who chuckled as she ate more strawberry cake.
"Your determination is cute, but you can't hold your feelings in forever."
"I'm not going to hold them in forever, just until I become S-Class." Erza shook her head, stubborn as always, but if Natsu says he's going to do it then he's going to do whatever he can to achieve his goal.
