They were supposed to sneak out of the temple together.
They were supposed to drag Obi-Wan along with them.
They were supposed to bring Rex, Fives, and Jesse.
They were supposed to all fly to Padme's.
They were supposed to squish together in the ship, all cramming in a circle around Ahsoka as they took off to some shop down on Coruscant.
Padme was to insist on buying her at least three new outfits ("No, I'm not letting you dress yourself. Not after the tube top phase." and "I don't care if you're only supposed to wear your Jedi clothes- you look freaking gorgeous in this.")
Fives and Jesse were supposed to sneak candy from in front of the counter out of the store as Rex paid for her cake ("Shhh, it'll be our little secret. Don't tell Rex!")
Rex was supposed to lift her up onto his shoulders, laughing as he carried her while their group strolled down the streets of Coruscant ("How's the weather up there, Little 'un!?")
Anakin was supposed to light the candles, sit by her side and beam at her happiness as everyone sang.
Anakin was supposed to try to wipe a palm full of frosting onto her face, and then kiss her nose affectionately as she jokingly scowled at him before getting him back within seconds.
Anakin was supposed be with her.
But she tucked herself into the corner of her dingy little apartment, a tiny cupcake clutched in her hand, the faint glow of the candle reflecting in her shining eyes.
There was no laughter, no singing. The only sound was the drip drip of the water that seeped through the crack in her ceiling.
Across the galaxy, a tired Jedi (father, brother) propped himself up against the side of his bed, his hand cupped around a tiny flame from the candle stuck into the cupcake he'd stolen from the mess hall.
He curled one leg up against himself, the other stretched in front of him.
"Happy Birthday," she muttered to herself, feeling anything but happy.
"Happy Birthday, Ahsoka," he whispered, his eyes shut gently as he tried to imagine her face, her smile.
He blew softly, and so did she.
Two lights, across the planet from one another, flickered out.
Ahsoka Tano is seventeen years old, and her whole world is falling apart.
sorry for the sadness but also not sorryyyy
