The darkness of death spread quickly. It darkened her skin to a mixture of its regular orange and now a sickly gray. Her eyes were heavy and unfocused, moving numbly from side to side as she searched for something, or someone, to cling on to.
A red blade (unmistakably that of a sith lightsaber) was protruding from her stomach. A black, gloved, shaking hand pulled it out cautiously.
It was too late though. Tears slipped from the Togruta's eyes just before they rolled back-
"NO!!" Anakin roared, sitting up in his bed, the covers sticking to him from the sweat his body was drenched in. His breaths were short and heavy as he frantically ripped his blankets off and jumped out of his bed.
His body was weak as he ran across his room and over to his door. He would not be surprised if he vomited right then and there from the knots his stomach was tying itself into.
He had meant to rush across the hall to his Padawan's room to make sure she was alright, but he crashed right into her on his way there, nearly knocking her over. He grabbed her shoulders to steady her.
"Hey! What's going on? I heard you scream," she said, worriedly looking up at him. Anakin shook his head at her, not saying a word.
After a few beats of silence (other than Anakin's heavy breathing), he pulled her into a hug- something that would be frowned upon by the Jedi Council if they knew about it.
Ahsoka, highly confused, did not return the hug. Instead, she looked around the hall in confusion as she waited for her friend to explain his odd behavior. She could feel his heart pounding in his chest.
"Um... Master? Are you okay?" she asked. He let her go and shook his head.
"I had a nightmare," he said, clearing his throat. "Well, at least I hope it was a nightmare. If it wasn't, then it was a vision."
"A vision of what?" Ahsoka responded suspiciously.
"Of you... dying."
"Oh."
"I just wanted to make sure that you were okay, Snips. You know, sometimes dreams can mean terrible things. I'm sorry for waking you up," he said, making his way back over to his bedroom door.
"It's alright. Can't wait to make fun of you for being so paranoid tomorrow," she joked, smiling. Anakin chuckled before entering his room, but Ahsoka could easily tell that he was still concerned about her safety.
She knew that Jedi could sometimes predict the future through their dreams, but she also knew that nightmares could just... happen sometimes. There was really no way for a force user to tell the difference between the two. She was not worried for her life from what Anakin had told her. She had a feeling that it had just been a nightmare. Then again, he had confided in her about the visions that he used to have of his mother before her death.
Panic began to rise in Ahsoka, but she quickly began to shut it down. She re-entered her bedroom and sat down on her bed, her legs crossed. She closed her eyes and began to meditate, breathing deeply as she concentrated.
"I am safe," she said, "I am not at risk of being harmed." She repeated those two phrases to herself, over and over again, until she felt herself drifting off to sleep. She could only hope that her master was able to drift off as easily as she had.
The next morning, Ahsoka began to notice very strange changes in Anakin's behavior.
"Has he been acting odd... well... odder than usual to you?" Master Kenobi had asked her during breakfast that morning.
