It had been going on for far too long, whatever this was.

A trick of some sort from the Force, Anakin assumed as he watched Ahsoka lean her head against Padme's shoulder.

He stepped around the couch, joining the pair. Ahsoka giggled as she was squished between them.

"Cozy, Snips?" he asked, wrapping an arm around the two of them.

"Cozy and warm," she confirmed. Anakin basked in the warmth of her smile, just as bright as the day that she had appeared to him in this place.

"Good." He planted a kiss atop her head before looking over her to make eye contact with Padme.

Her eyes were troubled as they flicked down to Ahsoka.

He knew exactly how she felt.

Ahsoka had no idea what what about to happen to her- what was about to happen to Rex downstairs in the spare room, what was about to happen to Obi-Wan and the twins upstairs as he tucked them in.

The 'I love you's and 'goodnight's had already been said to the kids, their parents voices a bit louder, their hugs a bit warmer, and their kisses a bit longer.

Obi-Wan had been hugged tightly by his little brother, his little sister confusedly following suit because if Anakin did it, she thought she'd better do it too.

Anakin couldn't remember if she'd always been like that- following so closely in his footsteps that they were nearly walking side by side.

In this reality she did. He couldn't remember much of her from before Vader, before everything fell apart. 

Before he'd gone to Padme's grave.

Before he'd accidentally ruined everything (as if he hadn't been doing that from the moment he'd drawn his lightsaber on the tusken raiders).

He wished he knew if the things about the people he loved were true in the real world.

He wished he knew if Obi-Wan's hugs were really that warm (had Obi-Wan ever hugged him out there?)

He wished he knew if Rex's laugh was really that contagious (There wasn't much to laugh about when your brothers are dying on a daily basis.)

He wished he knew if Padme's eyes really lit up that much when she hugged Luke and Leia each morning (she was dead before she could even tuck them into their cribs.)

He could wish and wish all he wanted, but this place simply wasn't real.

And he knew it was time to let go.

Perhaps the real world might be kinder to him when he returned- a reward for all of his pain.

He would find out in a few short minutes as the barrier approached their home.

It's time, Padme mouthed to him, to say goodbye.

He nodded, tilting his head down at the togruta curled up next to him.

"Ahsoka," he whispered, nudging her gently. She looked up at him with bright eyes- innocent eyes, eyes that hadn't belonged to Commander Tano, but eyes that belonged to Ahsoka. Snips.

"Yeah?"

"It's time for you to get off to bed." He could hear the buzz of the barrier up the stairs. It would take her on the way up.

"Aww, just a few more minutes with you guys?" she whined.

She had no idea of the depth of that statement.

"Sure," he choked out at the same time as Padme's firm,

"Yes."

No words were spoken as Padme and Anakin held her in their arms between them, her content sighs the only sound in their world.

As the buzzing grew louder, the two adults found one another's eyes.

It was closing in on them.

Ahsoka held tightly to her brother's arm.

Padme whispered, "I love you."

Anakin began to say it back but his natural voice was ripped from his throat. The words were spoken by another man- another Anakin.

Vader fell to his knees, his hands curling into fists as he mourned what had never been.

OMG HOW DID I FORGET TO SCREAM ABOUT THIS ON THE LAST PART BUT ANDJEKDJDJSJ REEEEEEXXXXXX AJSKOWKCJEJSJDIKDKDK I SCREAMED AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS AND FELL ON THE FLOOR WHEN I SAW HIM AND PROCEEDED TO REWIND THE TRAILER THREE TIMES TO MAKE SURE I WASNT TRIPPING BUT I LITERALLY GET CHOKED UP EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE'RE GONNA SEE HIM AGAIN THE SHOT OF HIM IN THE TRAILER IS MY LOCKSCREEN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME
