The crisp fall air welcomed me when I stepped out of my car. Gray cloud swirled in the sky covering the warm sun. It was the typical autumn weather.

I decided to stop by the coffee shop before I went to my first class of the day. It was a hole in the wall café, but it was my favorite in Toronto.

My phone buzzed in my pocket as I stepped into the curb. I pulled it out of my back pocket to check the notification, but me being the klutz I am, I bumped into someone.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't-," my eyes looked up to meet a pair of warm brown eyes.

"It's okay." He said giving me a small smile revealing his perfectly straight teeth. He opened the door for me to walk into the coffee shop.

"Thank you." I said walking through the door.  The smell of dark roasted coffee beans and chocolate chip cookies filled my nose.

"Can I just have a caramel macchiato?" I ordered. The middle aged woman nodded and keyed in the order.

"Name?" She asked.

"Amber." I answered as I pulled out my wallet.

"That'll be 6.78." She said looking back up at me.

Just as I was about to hand her the money a hand with a stunning bird tattoo handed her a ten dollar bill. I looked up to see the boy from earlier.

"You didn't have to do that." I said shaking my head with a smile and tucking a piece of my hair behind my ear.

"Yeah," he shrugged, "guess I'm just feeling generous." He smiled that perfect smile again.

"Thank you." I said taking the coffee from the woman.

"Shawn!" The woman called the name out loudly. The boy reached out and grabbed the large green tea.

"Shawn?" I asked looking up at him.

"Yeah, so do you have time to sit down and get to know each other?" He asked making my heart flutter.

"Uh," I looked down at the watch on my wrist, "yeah." Even though I was going to be really late for work.

six months later
"Amber please," Shawn begged.

"Nope I'm not telling you." I said laughing and shaking my head.

"Fine then I'm not telling you either." He said crossing his arms over his chest.

"I already know." I said pulling the muffins out of the oven.

"No you don't." He argued.

"Yes I do," I took my oven mitt off and turned to face him, "you still like Hailey."

He pushed his eyebrows together and looked at me confused, "You're so wrong." He said laughing a little.

"Oh please," I stepped closer to him, "if hailey were to call you right now wanting to see you my door would have a shawn shaped hole in it." I said rolling my eyes.

"Whatever and even if I was still hung up on her I wouldn't ditch you." He said walking closer to me.

"Why? Because I made you muffins?" I asked making him smile.

"That's sort of the reason." He said making me smile. He reached past me and grabbed a blueberry muffin.

three months later
i looked down at the untouched cold food and sighed. i should of known i would get stood up. i shouldn't of gotten my hopes up.

"amber," i turned around to see shawn looking at me with a confused look. i quickly turned back around and wiped my eyes. "what's wrong?" he slid into the booth in front of me and looked at me concerned.

"nothing, i just came in to get a bite to eat." i lied.

"you haven't even touched your food." shawn said looking down at my plate.

i sighed and shook my head, "i got stood up." i admitted.

his eyes softened as he pieced it together. "by who?" his voice was stern as he spoke.

"Owen." i said looking down at my chipped nail polish.

"seriously? that douchebag?" he asked making me look up.

"please don't start," i said leaning forward on my arms.

"sorry, it's just-," he pushed his eyebrows together and looked down, "you're way too good to even give that guy a chance. You deserve way better than that," He said making my heart race. "You deserve a better restaurant that isn't just greasy burgers and stale French fries, you deserve someone that will pick you up and give you a dozen of your favorite flowers, and then take you to your favorite restaurant. Someone that will take random cute photos of you, and tell you how beautiful you are no matter how much you deny it."

"Shawn," i didn't even know what to say. I was speechless, "Thank you, but that's so not true." I could barely hear my voice over the sound of my heart pounding in my ears.

"Don't say that amber, it is true." Shawn argued. His hand reached out across the table and held mine. I swallowed hard and looked back up at him. "You're so beautiful and funny. You can make light out of the worst situations. You can somehow make me conquer the hardest tasks when I don't even feel like getting out of bed. You're amazing amber."

My eyes turned glossy because of his sweet words. I took a deep breath and said, "you have no idea how much that means to me."

He licked his lips and smiled.

1 week later
"You know this movie is actually really scary right?" I asked Shawn as he sat back down on the couch.

"That's kind of the reason why I'm playing it." He said pulling a blanket over us.

"Why did I agree to this?" I asked rolling my eyes and cuddling closer to him.

"Because it gives you an excuse to cuddle close to me." He said making my cheeks heat up.

"Whatever." I mumbled causing him to laugh a little and wrap his arm around me.

About 30 minutes into the movie I was trying to keep my eyes open. I was so sleepy.

"you can go to sleep if you want." Shawn said rubbing small circles on my arm. I nodded and closed my eyes.

Just as I was slipping into a deep sleep Shawn's whispered, "I've fallen so hard for you."

my lips curved into a smile, "Well I'm glad because I fell for you when we met in that Café." my words were soft but loud enough for him to hear. i lifted my head off his chest to meet his eyes. he smiled and leaned closer making my breath hitch in my throat. his hand caressed my cheek as the other rested on my hip. his plump lips met mine making my heart explode. our mouths moved in sync until we had to pull away for air.

It all started in a café.
