This was really happening. Oh God this was really happening. Dick tried to control his breathing as he tried to think about how things could go well but they kept being tainted by the horrible negative hypotheticals. They could see this as no big deal or they could see it as a deal-breaker and he'd be out within minutes without a dollar to his name. He shook his head. He called this family meeting and he was going to go through with it. He'd already sent the message on Whatsapp and in twenty minutes he'd be revealing his biggest secret. He was gay. Like hella gay. He paced his bedroom with his phone tightly held against his chest. The Young Justice group chat was pretty much his lifeline right now. They were telling him how it would all be fine and he could always stay with one of them. They had a point. Barry simply adored him so staying there would be no question. Plus Wally would be there for the tough nights. But he didn't want to be a burden on them. He could be a lot at the best of times and after being kicked out for being gay that wouldn't be the best of times. Maybe he could stay at the Mountain. He already had a room there after all. Unfortunately, his family had direct access to there and could drive him out just as quickly as he settled down. They'd probably drive him out of the League altogether. Under his bed, he had a bag packed. It was a few essentials, about a month's worth of pocket money saved up, and a spare Robin suit. He still wanted to be Robin even if it would be difficult to still be on his top game when his family hated him. Dick took the backpack out from under the bed and stared at it. Did he have that little faith that they'd accept him? What could he say, he'd learned how to over-prepare. To expect the worse. Gotham really made it difficult to remain optimistic. For the most part, he was but not when it came to this. First off, pride just wasn't a thing. The Mayor said it was due to the threat level of having such a big event but the queer community just called it discrimination with an excuse. Secondly, the last famous guy to come out was absolutely thrashed on Twitter by Gothamites. He moved away eventually and didn't come back. Apparently he couldn't book a gig in the city. Something about drama. The last thing Dick needed was drama. What if when he told his family all this they'd out him? How could he even deal with that? Sure he didn't really have a future career other than being a vigilante right now but he'd still like to finish his education just so he had a baseline of some sort of qualifications.
Dick took one last look around the room. Was there anything else he wanted to take? His eyes glanced over the pictures. Even if they did kick him out, he still wanted something to remember his family by. He decided he'd take the photo from when they went to the zoo. It was one of their first outings as a family. He was barely ten in the photo. He looked young but he also looked exhausted. His blue eyes seemed a lot darker back then. His smile looked forced. Nevertheless, he loved the photo. His family was happy and he was much happier than he seemed. He took the photo out of the frame and put it in the bag. He also decided on taking a picture with him and Babs then another of him and the rest of his teammates. If things didn't turn out well, he didn't know when the next time he'd see them again would be. He packed them all into the bag and put it to the side of the window. He wanted a quick getaway if things didn't go his way. The meeting would be in his room for this particular reason. His bedroom faced the direction of where the next closest Zetatube would be aside from the Batcave. He could just swing the bag over his shoulder, slide down the drainpipe and book it. His backup plan if he got kicked out the Mountain was Bludhaven, then Jump City and if that didn't work out he'd try to catch up with Haley's circus and rejoin. He still had all the skills, maybe even more so now. Being a circus performer could be fun. Maybe he could solve crimes in whatever city they stopped off at. A traveling vigilante. It'd be nice to do that again. The adoring shouts. The kind words after the shows. Excited kids running up to you and staring at you like you were some sort of superhuman.
