Chapter 44

Jayden's POV

The door opened to reveal Rose's tear streaked eyes. And I don't know why, but it pained me to see her this way. And knowing that I was a part of what caused it only pained me more.

"Jay. U-Uhm... What can I.."

"It wasn't what you think." I cut her off.

By the look on her face, I knew that she knew exactly what I was talking about.

"I-I don't know what you mean." She almost whispered and I gave out a sigh.

"Can I.. Can I come in??" I asked her but she seemed unsure.

"I just want to talk." I added. "Please. Let me explain everything. You deserve the truth."

She then turned away but I didn't miss that she gave me a slow nod and opened the door wider for me to enter.

As I did, I tried to think of where to even begin explaining everything to her.

"You can sit anywhere you like just as long as you're comfortable." She said not even turning to look at me and I just could take it anymore.

I quickly went to hold her hand, seeing her flinch in the process.

"Rose." I gently call her name so that she'd look up to me.

"Rose please look at me." She was still unsure of her movements but then to my glee she slowly looked up and met with my eyes.

Why???

Why do I lose myself in these eyes??

I remember looking in the eyes of my mate once and I was just as lost as I am now.

So with these thoughts in mind, I carefully lifted my hand and placed it on her cheek, using my thumb to gently wipe the stray tears.

"I wanted nothing more than to kiss you that day." I found myself saying.

That made her look down, breaking her gaze with mine. So using my hand, I gently lifted her head so that our eyes would meet once again.

"When we were talking in the forest when we were in Hollow I... I realized that.. that I love spending time with you." I started.

"I forgot all the pressures that are on my shoulder. And of all the bad things that happened in my past." She didn't look away as I said that.

"And when we were just inches apart I.. I wanted nothing but to pull you in but..."

"I-Icouldn't.. cause I remembered my mate." I finished.

Silence came before us for a few seconds before..

"I understand." I hear her say. "I understand so, you don't have to explain it to me."

"There's more you need to know." I say and she gave me a nod.

I gathered up my thoughts, trying to think of how to say it.

"I-I.." it was really hard for me to say this for it made me feel like a completely terrible person.

But I knew that she needed to know. So as I breathed in, I just decided to say it.

"I've fallen in love with you Rose." Upon hearing that, she stayed silent but you could see the surprise in her eyes.

"But.. But I'm afraid I fell in love with you for the wrong reasons." I added as I looked away from her.

But then I felt her place her hand on the one that I had on her cheek before hearing her say. "I don't understand."
