Sam's favorite song played on the radio, "Hey" by the Pixies. Deena was the one that first played the song for Sam. And the first time she heard it, she fell in love with it. Ever since then, Deena and Sam called it their song.
She remembered what Deena told her when she was asleep in the bed at the hospital. That she wanted to give Sam the family she always wanted.
She imagined a house, with a white picket fence, and Sam baking cinnamon rolls which was Deena's favorite and Deena's mom taught Sam her secret recipe for them.
She wanted the house to be blue, she decided, and she laughed to herself as she thought about how Deena would react to having a blue house.
She wanted to give Deena that, too. A family, a white picket fence, a dog and maybe a kid. Sam wanted to give Deena a wife. She wanted to be Deena's wife.
The song on the radio changed, causing Sam to break out of her dream with Deena.
The news of Sam having to go through chemotherapy terrified Sam. She was scared mostly of not being able to give Deena that, a future together in their blue house.
Deena gasped as she dropped the phone.
"She's at my house!" Deena yelled back to the room as she ran to the stairs, knocking into a few people by accident but too focused to pay attention to them.
She didn't wait for the others to join her, she knew they had their own rides. She pulled out of the hospital so fast that she almost caused three accidents.
She drove as fast as she could, trying to get through every green light, but she slammed on her brakes at the last second to a red light. When she stopped, she took a deep breath and then looked to the car next to her, realizing it was the same girl that helped Sam with a nose bleed, Olivia.
Olivia waved, but Deena didn't return it, she kept her face stern as she turned back to the road.
She pulled up to her driveway, almost hitting the garage door and almost forgetting to put the car in park.
"Where is she?!" Deena asked as soon as she opened the door.
Josh was on the couch and was scared when Deena came bursting inside. He couldn't answer her because she went straight back to her room before he could.
"Sam!" Deena yelled as soon as she opened her door.
Her stomach twisting as she looked around the room, not seeing Sam. She was about to go yell at Josh when she realized the window was cracked.
Whenever they went on the roof, they would leave it open slightly so they could hear music.
Deena sighed, feeling a small amount of relief at the sight. She opened the window and climbed on to the roof.
She would fall to her knees again if she wasn't on a roof, as soon as she saw Sam. Relief washed over her seeing Sam's face, and the fact that Sam was alive and in front of her.
Sam sat up the moment she heard Deena opening the window. She had a smile on her face until she locked eyes with Deena. Deena looked so worried and in pain. Sam knew now that Deena heard that Sam left the hospital without being allowed to and didn't tell anyone.
"Sam, I fucking love you so much. You can't do that. You can't just leave! You left! You didn't say anything, you just left! I thought you were dead Sam." Deena moved next to Sam, her hands grabbing Sam's face.
"You were gone, you.." Deena's voice cracked as she tried to plead to Sam how awful the last few hours have been. Deena pulled Sam into a kiss, instantly deepening the kiss.
