"You have to be fucking kidding me," Deena said as Sam held up a Polaroid someone took of them in their sashes and tiaras from Kate's party.
"What? It's adorable," Sam had a smile on her face as she passed the photo back to Kate.
"It was an once in a lifetime, I had to get proof of it." Kate said as she put the photo back safely in her bag.
Sam laughed then leaned towards Deena to kiss her cheek.
"It was a memorable night, that's for sure. After you guys left all anyone could talk about was you. I saw some of the football players re-enacting the punch." Simon stated before taking a huge bite of pizza that was almost too big for his mouth.
Deena cringed while watching him. "It was Taylor's fault. If she knew Sam was going to be there then she knew I would be too. She should've expected it, especially after her trying to hit me in the hallway."
"My money would've been on Sam hitting her again. Since you chickened out the first time," Kate joked, and threw a piece of popcorn at Sam.
"Well she doesn't go to school with us anymore, so I shouldn't get in trouble. If Sam was there in the hallway at school I would've punched her there."
"We totally believe you're a tough badass all the time now, babe." Sam said then kissed her cheek again.
"Guys! Please shut up. This is the best part!" Simon exclaimed as he pointed at the TV. They were watching The Evil Dead, a horror movie from the 80's that Simon and Kate loved. Sam didn't at all but watched it for them whenever they wanted to.
Sam winced and turned to hide her face in Deena's shoulder, which made Deena smile and she wrapped her arm around Sam's waist tightly. It was one of the many gory scenes in the movie and Sam didn't want to look so she could keep the pizza down that she just ate.
Deena remembered how Sam would do this all the time before when they hung out together. Sometimes she thought when they were younger that Sam choose to watch a scary movie on purpose so she could hide in Deena's shoulder as Deena wrapped her arms around Sam. That's why Deena choose the scary movies too.
"That's so gross and disturbing," Kate said while looking at the TV.
"Then why do you watch it?" Deena questioned since Simon and Kate always wanted to watch horror movies.
"Because it's so bad that it's hilarious," Kate said and both her and Simon laughed.
"Okay the bloody part is over with, Sam." Deena whispered to Sam and kissed the top of Sam's head.
Sam turned back to face the screen, but still leaned on Deena's shoulder.
"Sam, you know we can watch something else. Not bloody or scary."
"No it's okay, really. You guys love it and I love hanging out with you so it's okay." Sam spoke and grabbed her cup from the table.
As she brought it up to her lips, there was a loud gunshot from the movie which made Sam scream and spill some of the water.
Deena put her arm around Sam's back again after she screamed.
"Oh shit, she's got that post trauma thing from Caleb. I totally forgot." Simon replied and paused the movie.
"Moron, it's PTSD." Kate said as she turned towards Sam and Deena went to get napkins from the kitchen.
"No? That makes you a neat freak. I'm talking about how she got shot and it makes her scared of gunshots." Simon replied to Kate.
"No, that's OCD, obsessive compulsion disorder. Sam's got PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, idiot." Kate shook her head as she spoke back to Simon.
"Sam, are you okay?" Deena returned to Sam's side and dried off Sam's hands and the table from Sam spilling the water.
"I totally forgot about the gunshot, I'm sorry Sam." Simon spoke and moved to sit next to Sam on the couch.
"Yes, I'm fine. It's okay. Just wasn't ready for it, I guess." Sam took a napkin from Deena to dry out her shirt.
"Do you get nightmares about it?" Kate asked Sam.
"Yeah, I had them all the time in the hospital. And still most nights."
"You never told me that. You said you haven't had any in awhile." Deena said as she turned to Sam with her eyebrows furrowed and a serious look on her face.
"On that note, we better go." Kate said and looked at Simon.
"Yup!" Simon nudged Sam on her shoulder and stood up. "I'm sorry about the gunshot, Sam. And good luck with that one." Simon pointed at Deena then almost ran out of the house when he saw Deena glare at him.
"Sorry for the mess. I would help but I think you guys need a minute. Love you both!" Kate spoke as she followed Simon out the door.
Sam sighed and turned towards Deena. "I know. I'm sorry, you asked me right after I got out of the hospital and you already felt so bad about not being there. I didn't want to make you feel worse."
"Sam, I get that. But if you're going through something, I want to know about it. I'm your girlfriend, that's my job." Deena reached out and brushed some of Sam's hair behind her ear.
"You're right. If it makes you feel any better, the worst ones are about losing you." Sam offered a weak laugh as she tried to comfort Deena.
"No, that does not make me feel better." Deena spoke them leaned in to kiss Sam, a hand wrapping around Sam's waist.
Sam raised a hand and wrapped it around the back of Deena's neck and pulled her closer. "I think I know what will make you feel better," Sam hummed against Deena's lips then kissed her again.
"Both my dad and Josh are here. It would be traumatic for my dad to catch us."
"I can be quiet." Sam said and it made Deena laugh.
"That's not what I meant, but you definitely aren't quiet." Deena stood and took Sam's hand. "Let's go before we get carried away."
