Thought about how Deena reacted when she wore the dress to the party they went to. It made her feel better about herself. Old boyfriends would compliment her but it never felt like it was genuine.
When Deena said it, Deena wasn't looking for anything in return, she just wanted Sam to know that Deena believed Sam was beautiful.
When ex boyfriends used to say it, Sam cringed because she knew they only said it to get something.
Sam thought about Deena for the last two hours as she fidgeted with her necklace. She had a plan.
Deena's dad was working a double shift and she knew Josh was at a friends house since it was Friday night, so it was the one of the only nights that would work out perfectly for them.
She still had the candles and some extra flower petals from the picnic she took Deena on at the rock in the woods.
So she set the candles around Deena's room, making sure to put them in places where Sam might accidentally knock them down and not by anything that would catch on fire.
Then she lit the candles and turned the lights off. Since dentition took so long, it was now night time and only the candles lit up the room.
She turned Deena's stereo on, putting in the same mixtape Deena made for their backyard prom. Then she laid the blue flower petals in a path from the door to the bed.
And Sam tried to put the petals in a heart on the bed, it was close enough to a heart that Deena could use her imagination, Sam decided.
She stood there for a moment and smiled as she looked around the room.
Sam changed into her dress, and took a deep breath, she was so excited for Deena to see all of it.
"Sam? Is it time yet?"
Sam made a little squeal when she heard Deena at the door.
She cleared her throat and opened the door. "Why yes it is, Mrs. Deena Johnson-Fraser, please, why don't you enter your own room." Sam spoke with a smirk on her face as she watched Deena's reaction.
Deena saw the flower petals on the ground first when Sam opened the door. She instantly had a smile of her face. Then her eyes went straight to Sam as she spoke.
She was in awe of Sam once again. Her mouth hung open when she looked Sam over. She loved that dress a lot more now it was just them in the room and not a bunch of pervy high school boys watching Sam.
"Wow, Sam you did this in five minutes? You look so beautiful. You always do. I love you so much."
Sam smiled widely at Deena as she took in the room.
Sam took Deena's hand and shut and locked the door behind them just in case.
"I love you so much. That's a heart, by the way. I ran out of petals but it's mostly a heart." Sam said as they moved to the bed.
Deena loved every second of this. Of Sam smiling and enjoying the moment also, and Sam being adorable and doing this for Deena.
She felt so much loved in this moment for Sam, actual tears brimmed in her eyes.
"Deena, I'm sorry, are you okay?" Sam asked when she saw Deena's face.
"Yes, I'm okay. I'm so much more than okay. I'm so happy in this moment with you. I feel so special because of you. I'm so in love with you Sam. It's all I feel sometimes, and I know I'll never stop."
Sam kissed Deena as soon as she was finished talking. It felt amazing to her to be able to make Deena happy like this.
Sam guided them to the bed, still keeping her lips on Deena's as she did.
