I made my way to the mess hall once my headache passed. It looked like it was dawn. Exactly how early is it?

I arrived and noticed the hall was empty. If I remember correctly, didn't Levi say we'd return to my home to gather more of father's research? In that case, where is he?

"Good morning, (y/n)." Greeted a familiar voice. I turned around and saw Erwin walking through the door.

"Good morning, Erwin!" I greeted.

"I heard you weren't feeling well yesterday, are you alright?" Erwin asked. Huh? Did Levi say I was sick?

"Well, I had a bit of a headache and I guess it took it's toll on me. I'm sorry I made you worry." I answered. Erwin placed a hand on my forehead.

"You don't seem to have a fever. I'm glad you're feeling better. Anyway, Levi explained how he was planning to go to your home and collect the rest of Doctor Zaki's research, however, since I am making arrangements for the upcoming expedition, I need all soldiers prepared and ready." Erwin explained.

"I see. I take it you need the Levi squad especially, to get prepared." I mentioned, looking over at him as he walked down the isle of tables.

"Exactly. Our main goal is to get you and Eren to Shiganshina, and hopefully, seal up both gates, reclaiming wall Maria." Erwin explained.

"All that in just one expedition?" I wondered.

"I would like that, but I doubt in one mission. Honestly, I don't know what the outcome will bring us." Erwin answered, looking directly at me. Something tells me he doubts himself.

Then Petra walked into the mess hall.

"Good morning Commander Erwin, (y/n)." She greeted, saluting.

"I take it you need (y/n)?" Erwin wondered.

"Yes sir, we are about to leave to plan for the upcoming events." Petra answered.

"You better go then, (y/n)." Erwin spoke, with a smile on his face.

"Right." I answered.

"Oh, and by the way. You can consider yourself an official scout member." Erwin mentioned. I stopped and looked at him.

"I'm honoured, sir." I replied, smiling. I then took my leave with Petra.

"Wow, an official member huh? How does that make you feel?" Petra asked.

"Happy, but also a little scared. I've only came face to face with a titan once when I was little, so I may be a nervous wreck out on the fields." I answered, scratching my chin.

"I think everyone gets that way, especially with their first time outside the walls. But not to worry, I'll make sure you are protected, after all, the entire Scout Regiment has faith in you." Petra comforted.

"I'm happy to help in any way I can." I answered. We both smiled at each other.

Petra is such a nice girl. I'm glad to have met her.

We met up with the rest of the squad, Levi didn't ask about yesterday. It made me feel a little sad in a way.

"So tonight, the graduates will decide which regiment they wanna join. Wonder how many are brave enough to join the scouts." Eld mentioned.

"After the last titan attack, I wouldn't be surprised if nobody decided to join. Wouldn't blame them." Gunther replied. Eren was feeding his horse and I was standing beside him.

"Do you know if anyone in your class is planning to join the scouts?" I asked.

"Yeah a few. At least there were, I'm really not so sure now." Eren replied, looking slightly depressed. I didn't know what to say that would comfort him.

Levi then galloped over on his horse and we all rushed over to him.

"Make ready people, we're going on patrol." He ordered.

"Sir yes sir!" We replied.

"Good morning Captain! Reporting for duty." Eren greeted.

"Eren, you will stay within ten metres of me at all times. The only reason you are out of your cell, is because I'm keeping an eye on you. Understood?" Levi ordered.

"Yes sir!" Eren replied.

We all got on our horses and headed on patrol.

"I really don't know why I'm needed here, I mean Petra and Oulo even stayed behind." I said to myself.

"Because you are officially a part of the Levi squad." Gunther encouraged.

"I am?"

"Isn't that what Commander Erwin said?" Eld asked.

"That's right. But why today?" I asked.

"Don't question orders, you just keep quiet and follow me." Levi scolded. I eternally groaned.

"Yes sir..."

Later we stopped to give the horses a break. I sat down by a tree and looked up at the sky. Will I ever get to experience freedom? I remember I wished to run around outside the walls. I was just a kid but it's a clear memory. I closed my eyes and remembered the day clearly

"One day, I wanna dance around in the lake under the moonlight. One day, I wanna be able to sit outside the walls without fear of anything wanting to eat me." I said, standing on the chair. Father chuckled and gave me a smile.

"One day you will. It isn't a guarantee, it's a promise. One day, I will show you life outside the walls. I'll show you the whole world. Just you and me." Father exclaimed, lifting me off the chair and sitting me on his shoulders.

"Do you really mean that?" I asked, placing my hands on his head.

"Of course. Have I ever broken a promise to you?" Father asked. I then giggled.

"I look forward to it then, father! Together we will beat the titans!" I cheered, throwing my arms in the air.
