Chapter 85

Flashback...

Levi's P.O.V

(y/n) was still staying with us, and a few weeks have passed. I guess I've grown used to her, though she still hugs me a lot.

At the moment it was night time, from what mama told me. I woke up and sat up rubbing my eyes. I saw mama still sleeping peacefully. I was about to lay back down when I realised that (y/n) wasn't next to me. I turned my head around and she was nowhere to be seen.

"Don't tell me she wandered off again..." I got out of the bed and the floor was cold beneath my feet. I walked around the small dusty room, but I couldn't find her. I decided to step outside to look. I hope she didn't go too far. Before I walked outside, I heard whimpering and crying.

Is that (y/n)?

I opened the door and popped my head around and saw her sitting by it with her knees tucked up to her chest and her head down. Her arms were crossed around her knees. She had Goosebumps on her arms and legs which indicated she was cold. I stepped out and closed the door behind me. (y/n) lifted her head up and looked up at me. She has tears running down her face and her eyes were red and puffy.

"What are you doing out here?" I asked, looking down at her.

"I... I had a bad dream..." (y/n) mumbled, as she looked forward, resting her chin on her arms.

"A bad dream? What about?" I asked, raising one eyebrow.

"About mama..." She murmured. I let out a small gasp by her response. She's never mentioned anything about her family, especially her parents. She never said where she came from or what happened to her, it must have been really bad if she can't even say it.

I sat down next to her and stared at her as more tears escaped her eyes.

"What happened to your mama?" I asked. (y/n) lowered her head in her lap and did her best not to keep crying.

"She..." (y/n) sniffled a bit and wiped her nose with her arm. "She's gone now... She's gone forever..." (y/n) cried.

"Did she die?" I asked, bluntly.

(y/n) suddenly covered her face with her hands and leaned forward.

Great... nice job Levi. What a way to make things worse.

"Sorry, what I meant to say is, what about the rest of your family?" I asked.

"I don't know... Papa left, and I haven't seen him... and my big brother... he's gone too. I've lost everyone.... I don't have any family left..." (y/n) cried.

I can't imagine how (y/n) can be feeling. I don't know what would happen if I lost mama.

I grasped her hand which caused her to look over to me.

"You haven't lost everyone. You still have me, and mama. We'll be your new family. I promise!" I spoke, as I shuffled my body closer to hers.

She sniffled and wiped her eyes with her other hand.

"Y-You mean it?" She asked, as her voice was cracking from all the crying. I nodded my head.

"I promise (y/n). I'll be there for you too. I'll be your new family. And I'll protect you too." I replied.

"B-But... what if I lose you too?" (y/n) asked.

"That won't happen. Even if you or me went somewhere far away, I promise I'll find you. When we grow up and get big, I'll be able to protect you. I won't let anything bad happen to you!" I explained.

(y/n) smiled, and more tears escaped.

"Hey, Levi."

"Yeah?"

"I... I'm still sad about my mama... is it... is it alright if I can cry?" (y/n) asked, as she looked down to the ground.

"Yeah." I moved my body and got onto my knees and wrapped my arms around her. She buried her face in my shoulder and continued to sob. I stroked her hair and rested my head on hers.

"I promise to protect you, (y/n)."

Flashback Over

That day, I promised I'd protect her, no matter what. And now I've failed, and she's gone...

"The (y/n) you once knew is gone for good... Because I devoured her."

No... I don't want to believe it... It's (y/n), no doubt about it, but it's not the (y/n) I know and love.

She'd never talk like that. Never.

I want to save her, I want her back. I don't know how to do that now... She's gone...

I'm sorry (y/n), I'm sorry I failed to protect you.

I need to save her. I don't believe she's gone, I know she's still in there somewhere. I don't know how to help her though... But I have to try.
