Chapter 28

I was nice enough to make some tea for us. We ended up waiting for a while.

"What's the hold up? Erwin's never late, they should be here. At this rate, the damn MP's will show up first." Levi murmured.

"He did say he was grabbing a few people." I pointed out.

"Either that or he's taking a shit. Duty calls."

Seriously Levi?

"You sure are in a talkative mood today." Eren pointed out.

"So, what if I am? Doesn't mean I was talking to you." Levi exclaimed, drinking the rest of his tea.

"So rude..." I mumbled. Levi suddenly had a pained expression on his face as he felt his leg. It's still hurting him, he's unable to fight now and It's because I couldn't protect Eren. Eren noticed it too and he spoke up.

"It's my fault. I made the choice; if I had thought this through then none of this... We wouldn't..." Eren was clenching his fists.

"You made a judgement call. Look, no one expects you to be clairvoyant." Levi stated. I stood up and walked over to Levi, handing him a tiny bottle. "What's this?"

"Pain relivers. I made them myself." I stated.

"Why would you make these?" Levi asked. I sat back down.

"Well, my main wish was to become a medical Doctor and treat the sick. Father however wanted me to devote more of my time to titan study. But that doesn't mean I gave up medicine. It helps a lot with pain relief and healing. Hence why I heal so fast." I explained. He glanced over with a still expression.

"Why not go back to medical research?" He wondered.

"Huh?"

Then the door opened, and Erwin walked in, followed by Armin, Mikasa and another tall guy with a long face. I've seen Eren talking to him a lot and if I recall, his name is Jean.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." Erwin called out.

"What the? Why are you all here?" Eren asked, noticing his friends.

"We believed we uncovered the female titan's true identity. She won't slip away this time" Erwin replied. Eren was shocked.

Erwin laid down a map of one of the districts. We all sat around and listened.

"The day after tomorrow we will be passing through Stohess District in route to the Capital. That's when we'll strike. It'll be our first and only chance to do so. Once we step into the interior the Government will assume custody of Eren and the scout's authority to do expeditions will be limited. Thus, to avoid admitting defeat, we must flush out the enemy now." Erwin explained and we all agreed. Erwin looked at me. "You have a pretty decent plan, (y/n). Care to share?" I nodded and stood up.

"When the operation starts while in Stohess we will use Eren as bait, luring her to the underground passage. The deeper the better, if she decides to transform then her movements will be limited. However, if she transforms before reaching the tunnel, then we will leave her to you, Eren." I explained. Eren looked hesitant and slightly pale.

"R-Right. So, there's no doubt she'll be in Stohess? She won't bail before we get there?" Eren questioned.

"No, she won't risk anything." Erwin pointed out.

"You mean she's..."

"Armin and (y/n) identified her last night. She's an MP, most likely responsible for the death of Hange's test subjects. And she is a fellow trainee in the 104th cadet corps." Erwin explained. Eren gasped in shock.

"Wait, you mean I trained with her?! You can't be serious!" Eren was outraged.

"I'm sorry but yes, she's one of us. Her name is Annie Leonhart."

Eren froze for a moment.

"You think it's Annie!? Where's your evidence?! Tell me!" Eren demanded.

"She knew what you looked like before she attacked. Plus, she reacted to my suicidal maniac talk, only something our classmates would know. But another reason why I suspect her, is because I believe she was the one who killed the captive titans." Armin explained.

"You're kinda going out on a limb there." Eren pointed out.

"But it makes sense, doesn't it? Someone who killed them must have been very familiar with the 3DM Gear." I stated.

"But there was the inspection! Her gear was through the clear." Eren pointed out.

"The one she presented didn't belong to her. It was... Marco's..." Armin murmured. Eren gasped. I noticed Jean looked pissed off.

"Hang on, what's Marco got to do with all this?!" Eren questioned.

"It's unclear." Eren stood up and stared at me.

"Maybe you need to get your eyes checked. There's no it's her!" Eren bellowed.

"That's enough! The evidence is laid out on a table and you still deny the truth? Even when it's right in front of you?" I questioned.

"Yeah but-"

Levi cut Eren off.

"Enough of that. Do you have anything else on her? Any sort of concrete evidence?" Levi asked. I shook my head.

"No sir." Armin replied.

"There's the fact that she looks like the female titan." Mikasa mentioned.

"Really?! What the hell is wrong with you people?! What kind of evidence is that?!" Eren bellowed.

"So basically, we're going after her without proof." Levi pointed out.

"It's a risk but it's worth taking." I answered.

"You're kidding me, right? This is insane... What if it's not her? What if she's not the monster you all say she is?" Eren questioned.

"If it's not her, she'll be cleared. Now sit down and stop behaving like a child!" I bellowed. Everyone stopped and looked at me.

"That's quite a spark she's got." Jean mumbled, grinning at me.

"We either go with what evidence with have stop her, or let the Government get their hands on you and most likely kill you. What's it gonna be, Eren?" I asked.

"Do you even hear yourselves? We're talking about Annie!"

"Eren, don't stand there and tell me this conversation isn't ringing any bells." Mikasa mentioned. Eren stopped and thought back. "You fought hand to hand with the female titan. Was there anything about her techniques that seemed familiar? Dig deep. It's Annie, you know it is." Mikasa explained. Eren was shocked, though he didn't want to believe it.

I let out a sigh.

"Eren, I want you, Mikasa and Armin to lure her to the underground entrance. We'll have people laying dormant, when one of you gives the signal, that's when we'll catch her. And, just in case, we will set traps if she transforms." I explained.

"Well done (y/n), at this rate you will be fit to be a squad leader." Erwin spoke. I gasped.

"You're joking right?!" I blurted. He chuckled and ignored my question. Man, that isn't even funny. No way in hell am I signing up for that job. "Anyway, I think it's best if we evacuate some of the city, if all hell breaks loose and Eren does fight Annie, it'd be best to avoid casualties." I mentioned.

"Very well then. Operation will begin soon. Everyone is dismissed.
