"곰돌이 아저씨!"

(Mr. Bear!)

로봇 장난감을 가진 꼬마 소녀 하나가 

붉은색 피부를 가진 덩치 큰 남자에게 다가갔다.

남자는 자신에게 다가오는 소녀가 낯설지 않는 듯

두 팔을 뻗어 소녀를 맞이한다.

(A little girl with a robot toy approached a big man with red skin. The man reaches out his arms to greet the girl as if she is not unfamiliar to him.)

소녀를 품은 남자는

장난감을 가지고 노는 소녀의 모습을

멍하니 바라보았다.

그러다가 고개를 들어 텔레비전을 보더니

다시 고개를 숙여 소녀를 보았다.

(The man with the girl looked blankly at the girl playing with the toy. Then he looked up, looked at the television, then lowered his head again, and saw the girl.)

"인형은?"

("What about the doll?")

남자의 물음에 소녀는 이렇게 대답했다. "그거 재미 없어요."

(To the man's question the girl replied: "That's not funny.")

자신의 오빠를 닮아서 저렇게 소년다운걸까?

(Is she Boyish because she looks like her brother?)

'한 여성의 과거는 저랬구나'

(That's what happened to a woman's past.)

그렇게 남자는 고개를 돌려 장난감으로 가득 찬 방을 보았다.

소년들이 가지고 놀았을만한 장난감의 포장지는 뜯겨져 있었지만

소녀들이 가지고 노는 장난감엔 손도 대지 않은 듯 그 포장지가 그대로 있었다.

(So the man turned his head and saw a room full of toys. The wrapping paper of the toys the boys might have played with was torn off, but the wrapping paper remained intact as if it had not touched the toys the girls played with.)

"소꿉놀이는 재미 없니?"

("Is playing house not fun?")

남자가 물었다. 소녀는 고개를 숙였다.

어지간히도 재미 없나보다.

그가 본 방에는  "난 경찰이 될 거야!"라고 

쓰여진 스케치북이 바닥에 놓여져 있었다.

남자는 소녀가 정의감이 넘치는 아이라는 걸 지레짐작했다.

남자는 하늘에 대고 소원을 빌었다.

(The man asked. The girl bowed her head. Maybe she didn't want to play with it. In the room he saw, there was a sketchbook on the floor that read, "I'm going to be a cop!" The man guessed that the girl was a righteous child. The man made a wish against the blue sky outside the window.)

"부디 이 소녀의 순수한 마음에 한 줌의 먼지가 묻지 않기를"

"Please don't let a handful of dust get into this girl's pure heart."
