"Hunt, do not move your hand away from where it is.", Richard told the trauma surgeon through the intercom of the gallery, when Bailey already walked into the OR to inform him about what was going on.
"What's happening?", Amelia asked in confusion, she had just finished closing the patient's head a few seconds ago. Stephanie and Jo were also pretty irritated. While Edwards was helping her mentor as always, Wilson had been Owen's right hand today.
"Hunt, stay where you are!", Miranda ordered again. "The three of you leave this OR and get out of the hospital right now!", she demanded, looking at the women. Her stern glances were easy for the redhead to read. Something was very wrong.
"What is happening?!", Jo questioned another time, not understanding the rush and not ready to move until somebody was telling her why she should. Getting to be part of such a surgery was really hard.
"Owen is holding a bomb.", the general surgeon finally said. "Now go!", she repeated more firmly than before. While the two interns had left immediately, Amelia was still standing in her place. "Shepherd, you can't do anything right now. We have to evacuate the hospital and he cannot move because then the bomb will explode."
"I am not leaving my fiancé in here!", the neurosurgeon insisted. "I would rather die with him than leave him alone.", she informed Bailey and Webber and didn't move an inch. Tears were filling her ocean blue eyes.
"Babe...", Owen meddled softly, causing her to look at him. "I need you to go and get out of this hospital.", he begged. "Think about the kids. You're pregnant. Please think about our five children, who need at least one of us."
"I...I can't leave you here!", the brunette cried. She was staring into his pleading eyes. He knew his argument about the kids had been the one she had needed to hear and all he wanted was to get his fiancé out of this room and as far away as possible.
"Please!", the trauma surgeon asked her again. "I love you Amelia, but you have to go!", he added and watched her walk up to him. Since he could at least move his head a little, he leaned down to her so that their foreheads could touch for a moment.
"Okay.", Amelia finally agreed. "I love you, too!", she sobbed before she left. For the redhead it felt like he was standing there for hours. How many? He didn't know. When the bomb disposal team arrived, he was able to leave at last. "Owen!", he heard his fiancé call him as he walked through the floor to find the nearest way out.
"Amelia?", he turned back around to see her standing in front of the closed OR door. She had waited for him. "AMELIA, COME OVER HERE!", he yelled, afraid. He watched her walk towards him when suddenly there was an explosion, dark smoke and fire were covering the spot she had just been standing in.
"NOOO!", Owen screamed as his eyes shot open and he sat up straight in bed, causing his fiancé to wake up too. He was breathing heavily, his sweaty body almost dripping. Tears were falling down his cheeks.
"Babe, it's okay!", the neurosurgeon comforted him and cupped his right cheek to make him face her. "What did you dream?", she wondered, worried. "What do you need?", she also wanted to know.
"I think you just died...", the redhead whispered in disbelief upon seeing her. Everything had felt so real, how could she be next to him right now? "You were in the middle of an explosion.", he tried to remind her.
"No, Owen. You've had a nightmare.", the brunette contradicted. "None of it was real.", she promised and watched him lay back down. "Do you want to take a shower?", she offered softly but he shook his head.
"No.", her fiancé sniffled. He had no energy for a shower. "I didn't protect you and the babies.", he shared in pain, watching her lay down next to him and pulling up her sweater to touch her belly. "I...", he sobbed.
"It was nothing but a bad dream.", Amelia pointed out once more and started caressing his head while he was stroking her stomach. "They are fine and so am I. You are alright, too.", she promised. Her heart broke upon seeing him that devastated. "Come here!", she said, pulling him into a tight hug.
"How selfish does it sound to ask you to not come back to work in January?", the trauma surgeon questioned a few minutes later once he had calmed down in her arms. "I can't protect you there.", he explained.
"Babe...I don't need protection.", his fiancé replied, trying not to sound too surprised by his request but indeed finding it too much. "So, yes. It is not okay to expect me to stay home for longer than I feel comfortable with because I will be home again as soon as the twins are born.", she gently argued. "I know you are worried, but you don't have to be."
"I figured you would put me in my place.", Owen admitted. "Thanks for doing it so softly.", he shrugged, feeling like an idiot. Not long ago he had asked her why she was enjoying the life of a housewife that much and suddenly, he expected her to be one. "Sorry."
"It's fine. Now let's go back to sleep.", the neurosurgeon suggested, turning off the light on her nightstand before she embraced him again. "I love you so much, babe!", she told him and pecked his lips, waiting for him to fall back asleep first before she let herself surrender to some more rest too.
