"Okay, I think I am fine with her on the bed now.", Amelia told her husband, who had taken a shower to get ready for bed. She had been keeping Eleanor away from the twins as much as possible for them to settle in smoothly. "You done, my little angel?", she asked Lucas, who she had just fed.
"You sure?", Owen questioned again, and she confirmed it by nodding. "Alright. Can I hold one of the twins?", he wondered, not actually having to check in with her about it but they both knew that Lucas wanted to be the baby his father was holding, so she would have to hand him to him.
"Yeah, here you go.", the brunette grinned and gave him the boy. "Please burp him before you guys snuggle.", she smiled before she lifted Luna back out of her tiny bed that was standing next to her side of the huge one. Her son was sleeping next to his dad.
"Good girl!", the trauma surgeon praised Ellie, who had been sitting on the floor, patiently waiting for her parents to let her on the bed with them and the kids. "Come up, sweetie.", he told the husky, who immediately jumped in between their legs. "And now, careful. Just sniffing, no kisses!"
"Wow, so gentle.", his wife continued praising the dog as she touched the newborns with her snout, going back and forth between them to get all the smells. "That is a good girl.", she said to the husky, that figured it was now time to get all the tastes through kisses.
"No!", the redhead stopped Ella from licking Lucas' face and pulled his arm with him in it away from her to push her off his son. "No kisses. That was the deal you made with us.", he reminded the dog, who stared at him as if he was crazy, which made Amelia chuckle.
"Down!", the neurosurgeon ordered, watching El obey in an instant as she laid down to wait for what was to come. "That's my good girl! Such a great husky. Here's a cookie.", she smiled, handing her the treat.
"Only sniffing.", her husband repeated while he brought the boy back closer to Eleanor for her to meet him again. It was important for the twins to settle in, but this wasn't nothing for the dog either and she had to get comfortable around the two new family members as well.
"Awww!", Amelia's face lit up when Ellie slowly calmed down and rested her snout on Lucas' legs to protect him. She remained in the position for about ten minutes before she moved on to do the same with Luna. "Are these your children, too?", she teased. "I know they are and if I need someone to mother-up for me because I need a break, you will be the first one I ask. Promise!", she winked at her husky and caressed her head with her free hand.
"You are so adorable.", Owen replied, shaking his head as he beamed at her before he leaned over to steal a kiss from her lips. "Okay, time for bed.", he informed the twins and kissed both of them multiple times. Their eyes were closing, and it was time for them to go to sleep.
"Owen...", the brunette sighed a few minutes later. They were spooning and she couldn't get her two-year-old's responses from the last three days out of her head. "Why does Leo hate his siblings? Not even Layla does, and she is the jealous one."
"Babe, he doesn't hate them.", the trauma surgeon lamely tried to contradict but would have lied if he had said that he wasn't worried as well. "He probably just needs more time to adjust.", he hoped thinking back to the dinner situation from earlier.
"Tan me poke them if they loud adain? (Can I poke them if they're loud again?)", Leo wondered, cracking his older siblings up while his parents threw each other irritated glances, not sure if he was joking or not.
"What kind of question is that supposed to be?", his father decided to perform the role of the bad guy, so his wife could be the good guy today. "Are you extra funny today?", he softly wanted to know, for now trying to be as calm as possible.
"No. Honest dwestion! (Honest question!)", his son shared, innocently smiling at his dad. "Or tan I put piwows on their faces, so they qwuiet? (Or can I put pillows on their faces, so they're quiet?)", he made another suggestion. "Cos (because) they annoywing."
"Leo Hunt!", Owen became madder at the thought of anybody harming his children. "That is not nice behavior! If we have a problem, we talk about it in this family and don't choose to be mean or violent. How did you feel when Layla tried to push you off the bed?", he reminded the boy.
"Jeez...", the five-year-old sighed, feeling attacked. Why did that get brought up again? She had been punished for her actions. One glance to her mom signaled her to stop with her attitude and just keep eating.
"It no was nice.", the mini blonde remembered, still not understanding what he had done wrong for his sister to be so angry at him that day. "But me not scweaming all day.", he shrugged and held his arms up for effect.
"And you think that your plan of hurting the babies is nice?", the redhead questioned. "Would you like it if somebody poked you or put a pillow on your face?", he added more questions, watching the two-year-old pout because he knew he was wrong but didn't want to admit it.
"Babe, I think he understood.", his wife interfered softly and offered him a small smile of appreciation. "Didn't you, Leo?", she asked her son firmly. "Look at me as you answer.", she demanded, causing the boy to lock eyes with her as he nodded.
