Owen: Hey! We just finished dinner and will come home now. =)

Amelia: Alrighty! Just put Leo down, now it's Queen Layla's turn. See you guys in a few minutes. =)

The brunette put away her phone after she had sent the message. Since Logan hadn't gotten his cinema time the day she had been rescued, she had asked her friend to take him this afternoon and have dinner with him after while she watched their two younger kids.

"Hi, mommy!", the three-year-old cutely mumbled, waiting for her mother in bed and sweetly waving at her as she walked into the room. "Come snuggle!", she requested with a huge beam on her face that Amelia couldn't say no to. Why would she deny cuddling with one of her children anyway? "I tad bit tiwed.", she announced.

"You've had an exhausting day, angel.", the neurosurgeon reminded her daughter softly, gently stroking her head. "And also, even if you hadn't had an exhausting day, it is totally fine to take a break and relax from time to time, it's healthy."

"It's healthy.", Layla repeated, enjoying the massage she was given while she watched her mother pull up the blanket to wrap it around her the way she liked.

"Exactly.", Amelia grinned at her cute kid, kissing her head. "Today, I really loved the way you gently said good night to your little brother.", she began with their daily routine, this time praising the small girl. "What did you love?"

"Today, I loved the museum, it was fun.", the mini brunette answered. "Can I say another thing? We always onwy choose one.", she wondered cutely and waited for her mom to reply which she did by nodding. "I awso loved my mama time."

"Awww, my sweet bean! I loved my Layla time as well.", her mother informed her child and kissed her forehead. "And now it's sleepy time. Tomorrow we'll read again but you can barely keep your eyes open, baby."

"No, pwease! Short story, mama!", the three-year-old begged and pouted. "Pretty pwease!", she insisted again. "About cherries.", she suggested since those were her favorite kind of fruit, making her mom chuckle.

"Fine. Very short one.", Amelia clarified. "Alright, let me think. Well, there was a little girl once. She loved cherries a lot and wouldn't eat anything else, except pizza and burgers, if she didn't have to. Her name was Layla."

"That's my name!", her daughter giggled excitedly. "What happened next?", she impatiently wanted to know, looking up at her mom with her beautiful blue eyes. (a/n: I don't think I have already decided on an eye color, but if I have and just forgot, please let me know.)

"One day, little Layla was out of cherries and she was so so sad about it.", the brunette continued. "So, she started crying. But luckily, her big brother Logan had heard that and walked over to his sister to ask what had happened. When she told him that there were no more cherries, he bent down to her height, gave her a soothing kiss to her head and took her hand to take her to a cherry tree."

"This is a very sweet story, mama. Because Logan would truly do that. I love him.", Layla shared cutely, her eyes slowly closing as sleep overcame her. Her mommy smiled at that and kissed her head again.

"Good night, my sweet girl. Your brother loves you too!", the neurosurgeon said and carefully stood up from the bed, yawning herself. She turned off the light and closed the door behind her before she looked at her phone, to which she received a message from Owen right this moment.

Owen: We are here, could you please open the front door?

Amelia: Thought you had taken your key, but sure. :D

"Hey, he fell asleep on the drive home.", the redhead explained once she had opened the door for them. He was carrying their oldest son. "I didn't have the heart to wake him. Let me quickly bring him to bed, I'll meet you in our bedroom."

"Okay.", his friend agreed with a soft smile. She loved the way Owen was with the kids. Once all members of her family were inside, she locked the door and walked into their bedroom to finally take all of James' clothes out of the dresser, since she hadn't even started the job the last time she had planned on doing it. "Hey!", she greeted her colleague again when he joined her in the room.

"Hi!", the trauma surgeon smiled and shyly walked over to her to kiss her cheek before he sat down on the edge of the bed to watch her, knowing this was her project and that she would ask him if she wanted help. "So, Logan loved it but apparently it was an exhausting day for him.", he chuckled sweetly in his excitement. "And I had so much fun too. The whole day was amazing and I just...I love our family so much and I love it when he calls me dad."

"I really love our family too.", Amelia beamed, pausing her task to peck her friend's lips, making him even happier. "And I think it helps me deal with James' death and with the abortion. I mean, I do not regret that, not at all. But it's not like I don't care. So, yeah...being a mom to three kids is my favorite thing to do and I absolutely enjoy co-parenting with you."

Owen was just about to respond when he watched the brunette take a pile of sweaters out of the dresser, causing something to fall out of it to the floor. Both of them stared at the little blackish box, scared to find out what was in it.

The redhead hoped it was a pair of earrings or something else which was meaningless but when the neurosurgeon picked up the box and opened it, he realized he was wrong.

Inside was a ring. Not just any ring but an engagement ring, in which "Amelia + James forever" had been engraved. All of a sudden, there was silence in the bedroom.

Owen didn't know what to do or how to react. Was he supposed to get up and hug her? Did she need time to be alone? And Amelia felt like she couldn't breathe. Her heart ached in pain. She missed her ex-boyfriend so much. Tears filled her eyes, and she broke the silence by sobbing and falling to her knees.
