"I am a neurosurgeon, but I have never seen the back of a head smashed like this before and I cannot get that sight out of my brain, Owen.", Amelia sniffled, hiding her face in his shirt that covered his chest. "But still, this isn't the Stockholm Syndrome because I have been with James for over three years and that's why I cannot let go so easily. I know he's bad. What he's done is bad...but you don't just stop loving someone.", she continued. "And now I believe that trust is based on letting other people check my phone...actually, I don't even know how my son's still alive with such a stupid mother."
"Hey, come on now. None of that!", the trauma surgeon said softly, still stroking her back as he let her cry into him. "You're not stupid, Amelia!", he told her when they heard Leo cry all of a sudden.
"I wanna go get him.", the brunette mumbled and left the room, wiping her eyes. "Hey, little baby.", she greeted the boy and lifted him out of his crib. "What's the matter?", she asked, kissing his head gently. "Let's go see daddy."
"Living proof that you're not a stupid mother.", Owen pointed out when his friend walked back into the bedroom, holding the six-month-old. "I know you might not want to be their mom, which is fine because nobody can make you, but the way you are with the kids? It's so beautiful!"
"Thank you. It's just...what if we never get together because I can't get over him? What if you meet someone else and when she holds your son, you realize that the love of your life should have been your children's mom, not some random ex-fling.", the neurosurgeon questioned softly when she decided to let Leo sleep with them today.
"I am a strong believer in second chances, and I am sure that someday, you will be able to get over James. Until then, I'll wait. And if I am not the person you'll fall in love with, I am going to accept it like any sane human would.", her friend explained. "But you see Amelia, I am already seeing the love of my life holding my son and I wouldn't want any other mom for my kids. Couples do that all the time, split up and co-parent. We can continue co-parenting as well even with other partners. And while you should be my children's mother, I cannot help it but want to be Logan's dad so badly. We connected when you were gone and I love him and-"
Amelia's lips on his stopped him from rambling. She was still holding the baby with her right arm and used her left one to swing herself in his lap to straddle him while she cupped his right cheek with her hand and passionately kissed him.
"Then wait for me. I can get ready for you...for us!", his colleague promised once she had broken the kiss. "And I think I am ready for us, Leo. Gotta tell your sister tomorrow.", she addressed the six-month-old, who grinned at her as if he understood. "I can't make the decision for Logan though. He hated it when James tried to be his father. Maybe just have a conversation about this with him tomorrow."
"I definitely will.", the redhead beamed at her. "Just to have talked about it though. Can we still have sex?", he wanted to know, making her chuckle and kiss him again, which was basically the answer he needed to hear.
"Yeah, but not in front of my snuggle buddy.", Amelia seriously informed him and got back off him with Leo still clinging to her. She laid down on her side, holding the boy close to her body, causing Owen to beam at them.

"Hey bud, what's for breakfast?", the trauma surgeon questioned when he walked into the kitchen with Leo in his arms before he buckled him into his bouncy seat and handed his child a toy to play with.
"Good morning!", Logan greeted him with a smile. "Uh, I don't know...you're the cook of this crazy chaotic family.", he shrugged before he put his book down and gave his attention to Leo next to him. "Hi, little sweet-mouse!", he said to the now smiling baby. "Maybe eggs and bacon?"
"Sounds good to me.", Owen told the ten-year-old. He was watching the boy and grew super nervous all of a sudden, causing him to sigh as he turned to the stove not aware that the young brunette had noticed it.
"You okay?", the kid wondered confused, still playing with what he figured was his little brother now. Layla was snuggling with his mother in bed. Both of them were the lazy half of the family. "You look nervous.", he observed.
"I am.", the redhead answered and swallowed heavily. "I am extremely nervous.", he shared, turning back around to the boy, and realizing he should rather sit with him during the talk instead of preparing breakfast at the same time.
"Why?", Logan asked curiously, letting go of Leo and his toy to focus on his counterpart. "What's wrong?", he wanted to know sweetly. "If you tell me what it is, maybe I can help you.", he offered innocently.
"Well, you actually are the only person who's able to make a decision about this.", his mother's boss informed him softly. "Your mom chose to be Layla's and Leo's mom too. And I am so happy she did. I know you hated how James wanted to be your dad because you said he wasn't. And I...I will be fine with any answer you give me, but I'd love to be your father. In case you don't want that, my kids can still be your siblings since I can see how much you love them and want them to."
"Uh, I never expected to get another chance of having a person in my life who I'd like to be my dad. I thought my mom would stay with James forever. Then he kidnapped her, and you took me in. And I was hoping really badly that you would let me stay with you if she was dead. You weren't my dad, but it felt like it. And it still does. So, I would love to be your son, but I cannot promise than I can call you dad already. I still miss my other father a lot. But I want to adjust to calling you dad, Owen. Is that alright?", the ten-year-old carefully wondered.
"It's perfect!", the trauma surgeon said as his face lit up. "Hey, you two are up!", he noticed Amelia, who was holding Layla, standing in the doorway. "Eggs and bacon for breakfast?", he offered, causing them to nod. "I love you, Logan!", he told the boy, kissing his head.
