It was snack time and after that, the Hunts would go on their shopping trip. Owen and Amelia planned on taking both cars, so one of them could take the older three to go see a movie once they had had dinner and the other one could take the twins home. The brunette looked at her phone when the display lit up with a message.
Megan: Heya, anyone up for a playdate?
Teddy: Yeah sure, the kids would love that.
Amelia: Not today, sorry. We are about to drive to the mall and movie theater. :)
Megan: Alrighty, have fun! Do you want us to take the twins? Would make your trip less stressful. ;)
Amelia: Nah, thank you. We're good.
"Ames, is this about my mom?", Owen asked as he cleaned the table. The older three children went upstairs to get changed and wash their hands and faces. "You know Megan. She would never do something like that."
"I...I just...I don't think I can trust anyone with my kids right now. And I know Megan, yeah. But something inside me tells me to be alarmed.", his wife sighed when suddenly her phone rang. "Hi, Meg!"
"Owen told me what happened with our mom.", the redhead informed her sister. "And I understand that you're worried because she was out of line. But think about Lucas...he will hate every second of being at the mall. So many people, so many noises. Nate, Teddy, Tom, and I will take good care of the twins. Don't make this trip harder for yourself than it needs to be. I swear, we will not disappoint you.", she promised.
"Fine. We'll drop them off soonish and pick them up after the movie. Hopefully they'll stay asleep.", Amelia finally gave in, still worried but determined to let go of her fears. "Thank you!", she added before she hung up the phone. "We can take the van.", she told her husband.
"El, go get your backpack! You're also going to Aunty Megan and Uncle Nathan's.", the trauma surgeon announced to the dog. The husky could be left alone for several hours but why would they do that when their family was happy to have her over as well.
"Woof!", Eleanor replied and walked over to the spot, where her little backpack was waiting for her to pick it up. Inside were some treats and trash bags. Her mother also put her dinner into the backpack.
"Good Girl!", she praised the dog and gave her a big kiss. Once everybody was ready to leave, they did, dropping off the twins and Ella on their way to the shopping mall. "Now that we don't have the babies with us, let's take Leo's stroller in case he doesn't wanna walk anymore.", she decided.
"Alright Guys, let's agree on five pieces of clothing of your choice each.", her husband said to the children, meaning the two older ones since they wouldn't let Leo look around the store without them anyway.
"Okay, I'm gonna go get some new clothes for the twins.", the brunette shared, leaving Owen with the toddler, who had decided to be a boy today, probably since him wanting to be a girl yesterday had caused so much trouble, at least according to him.
"Do you wanna get out of your stroller, Sweetheart?", his father questioned but the four-year-old just shook his head, too shy to look around the corner that was labeled as "Trendy Outfits for Girls". After his grandma's outburst, he was sure that other people wouldn't accept him for who he was either. "Why not? You were so excited to find some new clothes.", he reminded his son.
"I don't wanna get stared at.", the mini blonde mumbled sadly, playing with his fingers as he did. "I'm not normal.", he shrugged and pouted, breaking his dad's heart with those words. He knelt down in front of him.
"Baby, there is no 'not normal' because everyone can be who they wanna be and there are no rules for how somebody is supposed to be. And you don't have to worry about people staring, because I am here, and I will take care of it. Let's just look around, maybe you'll find something you like here and maybe not. You don't have to take anything. Deal?", Owen suggested softly, holding his boy's hands until he finally nodded. "Good.", he smiled and gave him a kiss.
"Dad, can we make an arrangement?", Logan joined them again, holding something behind his back. His father's frown signaled him to continue. "Can I get this super expensive jacket and nothing else? Please!", he begged.
"Show me!", the redhead ordered and held out his hand, grabbing the jacket from his son to look at its quality and the price. "You really went all in.", he noticed. Teenagers, he thought. But the young brunette was at least ready to dispense with other pieces of clothing. "Fine. If you truly think this is the only thing you want, then I see no reason to buy you five other clothes you wouldn't wear anyway."
"You're the best!", the thirteen-year-old's face lit up and he happily embraced his dad, putting the jacket into their cart. "Leo, why are you still sitting there? Let's find you some clothes! Here, take my hand!", he offered, waiting for his brother to come with him, which he did. "Would you like to look at some of those dresses?", he asked.
"Yeah.", the toddler answered and nodded. "I like the yellow one.", he informed his older brother, pointing to it. It had flowers on it. "Do you think it fits me?", he wanted Logan's opinion as he held one of the dresses against his body.
"It looks perfect on you!", both his siblings said at the same time, since Layla had already picked out four pieces of clothing for herself. Grey sweatpants that had a funny monster face integrated on the spot where it would cover her butt, the tongue hanging loosely out of the mouth, a black-and-white-striped dress which was connected to a silky red skirt that had a cute reindeer on it, a rainbow-colored blouse and a grey soft jacket that made her look like a dinosaur but wasn't too much of a costume, so she could actually wear it to school. "Do you wanna go as twins? I like the dress too!"
"Yes!", Leo beamed, excitedly watching his sister pick out the same dress for herself. He also chose another dress-outfit, which was consisting of a white sweatshirt that was to be worn below the grey checkered dress, a blue sweater with white clouds printed on it, a green dungarees and a pajama, whose top was a dark blue-white-striped sweater with a little bear printed on the pocket in the front, its orange ears hanging loose, so one could pet them, and a dark blue pajama bottom with the same bear on each leg.
