"Layla, Munchkin, where are you? It's time for breakfast.", Owen called for his daughter, who wasn't in her room. "Here you are.", he said when he found her on his and Amelia's balcony. "What are you doing, Sweetie?", he wondered.
"I am watching them play whatever sport that is.", the young brunette shared without moving her head away from the intriguing game on the beach. She was standing at the railing, her head resting on her arms. "What's it called, Daddy?"
"They are playing volleyball. Do you wanna ask if you can play with them after breakfast?", her father suggested softly, causing his daughter to turn around to him, thinking about it for a moment before she shook her head. "Why not?"
"I'm scared.", Layla replied sadly and pouted while she shrugged. "I really wanna play but I don't want to go there alone. Will you come with me, Daddy?", she wanted to know, seeing the trauma surgeon's face light up at the request. He nodded. "What's for breakfast?"
"I made scrambled eggs.", the redhead answered, letting the girl take his hand. He loved it when she needed him because the way she acted and talked sometimes, caused him to think that she soon wouldn't need her dad anymore.
"I love scrambled eggs!", the seven-year-old excitedly exclaimed as they went downstairs, where everyone else was waiting for them. "Mama, daddy told me I can play volleyball with the other kids on the beach after breakfast."
"But only if you empty the plate I prepared for you, otherwise you won't have enough energy, Angel.", Amelia beamed at her happy child, very aware of the fact that she would finish her breakfast in no time, so it wasn't an actual threat. "Are you going with her, or am I?", she asked her husband, not even considering that her daughter could go alone since she was still young.
"I'm going with her if that's alright with you.", Owen informed her about his plan. "I just figured since your friends are coming over soon, you might wanna catch up with them before we get started on the house. And in the meantime, we'll be back."
"Yeah, sounds perfect, Babe.", the neurosurgeon agreed. "Logan, Leo, what are you gonna do?", she questioned her boys because the twins wouldn't be doing much without their parents.
"I have to continue putting my stuff away and hanging up the pictures I brought.", her oldest son shared. "And also, I really wanna see everybody. It's been years!", he pointed out in excitement. "I hope Auntie Charlotte is still as funny."
"She probably is.", his mother chuckled. "Auntie Charlotte is not one to change.", she joked and winked at the teenager. "And you, Leo? Anything you wanna do while we are working on the remaining rooms?"
"I don't know. Maybe I can watch a cartoon?", the four-year-old tried, glancing up at his parents with huge begging eyes. He couldn't read their faces though. "Or maybe I will do a puzzle.", he shrugged.
"You get to watch one cartoon and then you can do your puzzle. Or the other way around, however you like. Does that sound like a deal?", his father made a suggestion. They still weren't keen on their younger kids using too many electronics but the toddler rarely asked, since he knew about how his parents felt.
"Yeah!", Leo excitedly nodded and beamed. "Very much!", he added happily and kept eating his breakfast. "Is Lucas okay with so many people coming over?", he voiced his concerns about his brother for the first time in his life, surprising everyone with his sympathy. He still didn't really like his little brother and usually didn't shy away from showing it.
"Well, it's not gonna be easy for him.", Amelia admitted. "But those are the people who we are going to spend most of our time here with, so he will eventually have to get used to them. It is probably going to take a while, like it did with your other aunts and uncles, but I'm sure he'll manage it.", she explained. "Still, I am very happy that you are such a concerned big sibling, Honey.", she praised the mini blonde. The couple often worked with praise and pride when it came to teach Leo certain behaviors since those two things worked best on their child.
"It's a hard job, but somebody's gotta do it.", the four-year-old shrugged, causing his parents to giggle, especially when they saw the way the two older kids frowned at that. "What? Is there a problem?", he asked his siblings. "Oh wow, I've definitely been spending too much time with Layla.", he repeated his words from yesterday.
"I haven't said anything cheeky all day.", his sister pouted, feeling attacked since she was behaving extra well right now to get to go to the beach with her father later. "I don't always wanna be the bad guy.", she dramatically mumbled.
"Okay everyone, let's not fight.", Owen meddled softly. "We were having a fun conversation just now. There's no need to be mean to anybody.", he reminded his children, internally hoping for a day on which nobody fought, but that was like a fever dream when someone had five kids.
"F is for friends who do stuff together.", Logan started singing the F.U.N. song from SpongeBob SquarePants. "U is for you and me. N is for anywhere and anytime at all.", he continued, although he never sang in front of his family anymore.
"Down here in the deep blue sea.", Leo, Layla and even Owen joined in, while Luna began to squeak happily and Lucas clapped along, causing Amelia to take her phone and film it. Normally, singing during any time they ate wasn't allowed, but there was no use of prohibiting the kids from doing it when their dad ignored the rule himself.
"Plankton version now?", the thirteen-year-old suggested and giggled, when his mama shook her head since it wasn't something the younger children had to hear. "Alrighty, SpongeBob's version it is one more time."
"F is for friends who do stuff together. U is for you and me. N is for anywhere and anytime at all. Down here in the deep blue sea.", the family repeated the stanza, causing everyone to be in a good mood again and the babies to laugh loudly, even Lucas expressed his joy by making happy noises.
