"I would like to bring Luna to bed today.", Owen told his wife when it was the twins' bedtime. This afternoon, he had cuddled a lot with his daughter and he still felt like he could lose her any second after today's incident.
"Sure.", the brunette agreed with a soft nod as she lifted Lucas into her arms. "Leo and Layla, put on your pajamas please and then you can play some more until we're ready to start the movie.", she told the other two children.
"Mama!", Lucas excitedly exclaimed as if he was trying to tell her something as she changed his diaper. Ever since he was going to the new daycare, his grumpy phase had stopped as if it had never been there in the first place.
"Yeah, Honey? What do you wanna tell me?", Amelia asked her son, putting on his pajama for the night. "Use your words, Lukie.", she advised, gently tapping his tiny nose. "I know you can.", she encouraged him.
Of course, he could not. But the one-year-old was indeed able to say at least a few words and some pieces of words and she was trying to get him to do that more often. He looked at her confused.
"Mhh...", he started, concentrating on the task at hand. "Mhhove (basically like he's saying 'me love') u.", he informed her and reached his arms out for her to hold him because he wanted to snuggle.
"Aww, really?", his mother acted surprised and watched him nod as he still waited to be picked up by her. "Well Angel, I have great news for you then, because I love you too!", she beamed at the baby and kissed his head before she put Lucas down in his crib and sang him to sleep. "Good night Sweetheart, we love you!"
She noticed that Luna's door was still slightly opened, which confused her since she usually took longer with bringing the kids to bed compared to her husband, so she decided to eavesdrop for a second.
"And tomorrow we'll go to the beach.", Owen explained to his child as they cuddled. He was sitting in the armchair in Luna's room and holding her close to him after getting her ready for bed. "Yeah, that's great huh?", he continued talking to the little girl that was falling asleep in his arms. "And daddy is going to make sure that what happened today will never happen to either you or any of your siblings ever again, I promise."
The neurosurgeon could feel her heart sink. She had been worried too but as soon as she had seen that her daughter was fine after all, she had been able to let go of her fears.
Meanwhile, her husband hadn't been, and it broke her heart that he seemed to think he could protect their children from such incidents and would blame himself if he failed again.
"Okay Munchkins, come with me.", Amelia told her two sandwich-kids and finally let them into their parents' bedroom, where they hadn't been allowed in earlier since the snacks were already waiting for them. "Everyone can choose their spot.", she announced. "You too, Honey.", she told Eleanor and gently patted the edge of the bed several times for the husky to jump up.
"Leo, ask your question!", Layla encouraged her little brother once both children had found their seats in between their parents, leaving space for their father to sit on his side of the bed. "Ask mommy what you asked me."
"Mama?", the four-year-old began unsurely, innocently looking up at her with his big eyes. She nodded, waiting for him to continue. "You are packing our lunchables for tomorrow, right?", he wondered.
"Yes, I'll do that later once you're sleeping and daddy is walking Ella.", the brunette answered. "Why, Love?", she wanted to know, smiling at the toddler to make him understand that he didn't have to be shy.
"Well, could I maybe get an animal themed one?", Leo finally questioned, noticing his mother's patient glance, and remembering his manners. "Please?", he added cutely and grabbed her arm for effect as his pleading eyes stared up at his mother.
"Of course, Baby.", the neurosurgeon agreed, watching his face light up. "Especially since you said 'could I' instead of 'I want'.", she praised the proud little boy and kissed his head. "Sweetie, do you have a special wish for yours too?"
"No, I wanna be surprised by you.", the seven-year-old replied excitedly. She loved it when her parents packed their lunchboxes following a certain theme. "Daddy!", she beamed at her father once he finally joined them ten minutes later, holding a tray with hot chocolates topped with the small colorful marshmallows they had bought earlier.
"Did she go down okay?", Amelia asked her husband, eager to find out if he was going to tell her about his worries and the extra cuddle time that had resulted from it or not. He just smiled a little and nodded as he took his seat next to Layla. "Good.", she decided to take the information Owen had given her and wrapped her arm around their son as he did the same with their daughter, so the couple could hold hands by intertwining their fingers.
"So, which movie are we watching today?", the redhead asked his kids who had been told to choose one. It was currently 7:30pm, so they would be done around 9, which was still acceptable since it was Friday.
"The Little Polar Bear.", the mini blonde shared what the siblings had picked for today. His dad nodded and searched for the movie with his right hand, still holding his wife's with his left one.
