"Mom?", Logan mumbled, finding his mother in his parents' office. He was fiddling with his pajama top and looking unwell. "My belly hurts.", he informed her sadly. He had been trying to sleep for about an hour now, but the pain was too extreme.
"Oh Honey, let's make you some tea and a hot water bottle.", Amelia answered, turned off her computer, and put her hand on her son's back to guide him into the living room, where he was supposed to wait on the couch with Eleanor while she prepared everything. "Do you feel sick or dizzy?"
"No, it just hurts a lot.", the teenager replied, sounding tormented, almost as if he was about to cry. "I want the pain to go away.", he finally started sobbing, causing the dog the raise her snout from his lap to sniff his chin, noticing something was wrong.
"It's okay Baby, you don't have to cry. It will be better super soon.", the brunette reassured him and together they went upstairs to his room, where she put the tea down on his bedside table and handed him the hot water bottle once he was back in bed.
"Can you stay here with me for a little longer?", the thirteen-year-old begged weakly, resting his head against his mother once she laid down next to him to caress his stomach after giving him the tea to drink.
"Of course, Sweetheart.", the neurosurgeon promised, calming her oldest child down and snuggling with him until he had emptied the cup and fallen back asleep. Ellie was laying on his blanket, resting her snout on top of his tummy. "You can stay here with him tonight.", she smiled at the worried husky, who finally closed her eyes as well, guarding her kid. "I love both of you.", she whispered, kissing their heads.
As she walked into her own bedroom to get ready for the night, she noticed that her husband was calling her, so she sat down on her side of the bed and took the call, wondering why he would be trying to reach her that late.
"Hey, Babe.", Owen greeted her, his face was showing up on her screen since he had facetimed his wife. Once she had greeted him back and asked if everything was fine, he responded: "Yeah, I'm just calling to say good night to you." He could feel his heart beat faster as soon as he saw her face light up after hearing his words.
"That's nice of you.", Amelia let him know, beaming at him. She had been really sad about yesterday and she was very glad that he had noticed how much his ignorance had hurt her. "How's work?"
"Meh. Pretty busy today. I mean, not anymore, but the afternoon was hell.", the redhead answered softly. "Can't wait to get home.", he said and yawned. "If nothing crazy comes up, I'll be home at 2am. How was it with the kids? Everything good?"
"Okay. Well, there's leftovers from dinner in the fridge for you if you're hungry, otherwise you may eat those for lunch tomorrow.", his wife pointed out. "Twins were pretty good, happy to see me of course, but Anton said they had had a great day. Luna played with a whole group of other children all day and even Lucas made a friend according to him."
"What? That's amazing!", the trauma surgeon's face was the one that lit up now after he had heard such wonderful news. "What's the kid's name?", he wanted to know, still suspicious of her feelings for the daycare teacher, but not in the mood to bring it up right now and fight again. It was too late for that, and he just wanted to know how his children's days had been.
"Mira.", the brunette answered softly, smiling as well. "Layla's volleyball practice was fun, but the shower I made her take not so much – according to your daughter.", she chuckled. "Leo had another one of her slower days and was daydreaming a whole lot today, but nothing to worry about either. And Logan was fine earlier, but he just complained about having a bellyache.", she reported.
"Oh no, I'm gonna check on him once I come home.", her husband announced. He knew how worried she got whenever one of their children felt sick. "But if he needs something, you know he'll wake you.", he reassured her.
"Yeah, but thanks for checking on him later. That helps me sleep a little better.", the neurosurgeon told him. "You're gonna pick them up tomorrow?", she asked if their plan was still up-to-date.
"Yes. I will also get up with you and take some of them to school.", Owen shared. "I can sleep all morning and after lunch, so it's no problem for me to help you with them. Especially if Logan is still sick, it makes sense for me to get up with you guys.", he explained.
"Alright. I'm gonna go to bed then.", Amelia decided. "Thanks for calling me. El is with Logan, which you will see when you're checking on him, but in case you don't notice her, don't freak out about her whereabouts once you see her empty bed. Good night, I love you."
"Good to know.", the redhead laughed. "Sleep well, I love you too.", he responded and ended the call to get back to work. His wife yawned as she walked into the ensuite to brush her teeth, not entirely sure if Owen had already forgiven her or not.
Other than Anton did when she was near him, she was pretty sure that she couldn't stay professional around the supervisor. He had never used her first name this morning, always calling her either Mrs. Hunt or her husband's wife, while she could never say Mr. Grady to him.
It felt wrong to think of the blonde after ending the call with Owen, but she couldn't really help herself. She sighed, trying to concentrate on something else, but nothing good came to her mind.
For a second, she figured she should just text Anton, but then she chose not to and to busy herself by scrolling through social media, seeing that Teddy had posted a new family picture and Zola had taken a photo of the dinner she had cooked together with Derek.
