"Lucas, look...there's eggs for breakfast and you love eggs.", Amelia desperately tried to cheer up her son, who was sitting in her lap at the grown-up table, pressing as much of his tiny body against his mother's as he could.
"Do you think he's getting sick or something?", Derek wondered, worried about his nephew. His sister put the back of her hand against the boy's forehead and shrugged, since his temperature felt normal.
"No, I don't think so. Yesterday was probably just too much for him. Too many people. I mean, he had fun, but only when Owen or I were with him, did he want to try out the indoor fun park.", the brunette answered. "Sweetie, you have to eat something.", she begged, handing her son some bread.
"You haven't eaten anything either.", her husband reminded her softly. "Maybe when he sees you eat something, he will too.", he figured and watched his wife take a bite of a breakfast roll.
"Okay, that's it.", the neurosurgeon decided when her son suddenly started crying silently. He had started being noisy while crying and now they were back to how it had been before. "Can you get us a plate ready? I'll feed him upstairs.", she said and got up. "Sorry, guys.", she sighed. "Ella, come!"
"Here you go.", Owen offered his wife a sad smile as he handed her the plate. She was sitting on their bed with the baby in between her legs. "Text me or call whenever you need something, alright?"
"Yeah.", Amelia nodded, the worry evident in her eyes. "I know yesterday was a lot for you, but you did have fun, Honey. You even laughed loudly from time to time. And I am trying to make everything less stressful for you, but your siblings deserve to have some fun as well and can't always quit wanting to do stuff like visiting an indoor park for you.", she explained to the boy, who stared at her with his big sad eyes.
"Mama...", Lucas sniffled. "Ejie (Ellie).", he asked for the husky to come snuggle again like she had done this morning. The dog moved to lay back down next to her mother and her baby. By now, the one-year-old started grabbing pieces of food from the plate his father had brought and began to eat them.
"Thank God!", the brunette whispered and exhaled a big breath she hadn't even known she had been holding in. "We can have a slow and peaceful day, Angel.", she promised her son and kissed his head, also ready to have breakfast, now that her child seemed to feel better. Once they were done, she texted her husband.
Amelia: He ate. :)
Owen: Glad to hear. <3 So, a quiet day it is...Layla requested to come join you guys, but maybe that's not a good idea...
Amelia: No, let her come, let's try at least. I don't want any of our children to feel left out.
Owen: Alright, she'll be there soon. Has to go brush her teeth first.
Amelia: Okay. <3
"Mama, can I come inside?", the seven-year-old mumbled from the other side of the door after she had knocked on it in a politely manner. Once she heard her mother say yes, she came in. "What's wrong, Lucas-Snugglebug?", she asked her brother when she climbed onto the bed and petted her dog, using her brother's nickname that she had thought of.
"He's a little overwhelmed because of all the people that were around us yesterday.", the neurosurgeon informed her daughter softly. "And he's a true Snugglebug today.", she agreed when the boy made some baby noises and reached for his sister, so she would hold him.
"Me too.", Layla beamed, happy that her brother wanted to cuddle with her. She put him on top of her with the help of her mom and held him, occasionally kissing his head. "You're safe with me, Lukie.", she promised.
"Hey!", her father peeked into the bedroom half an hour later. "Looks like it works.", he whispered into his wife's ear and kissed her temple. "I'm gonna get the plate and maybe my husky, if she wants to go outside. Ella, do you wanna go outside? We're going to play with the kids!", he told the dog, who deadass ignored him, too busy looking after her son. "Okay, fine. Layls, do you wanna come?"
"No, Daddy. I want to stay here with Lucas and Mama if I am allowed to.", the young brunette replied with a sweet smile, causing her father to nod and leave. "Why is El a stay-inside-doggo, mommy?", she wondered.
"Because she isn't just a normal dog, she's also convinced that her job is being your and your siblings' other mother.", Amelia chuckled and kissed all three of their heads when the girl giggled.
"I think Lucas is the quietest baby the world has ever seen.", the seven-year-old innocently realized as she glanced down at her brother, who was silently enjoying the snuggles to the fullest and didn't really move at all. "And the calmest one."
"Well, probably. But that's because of his special needs, Honey.", her mother explained softly. "Usually, babies communicate through noises because they can't speak and since Lucas doesn't, it's not easy to find out what's wrong and what's bothering him, you know? Him always being so quiet and easy is harder than when Luna cries all night. But I think he's on a good path to recovery."
"Yeah, yesterday was stressful for him, so we should give him a pass for today.", Layla advised cutely. "And there's a reason why the phrase 'special needs' is called that, because my brother truly is a special blessing.", she proudly added, melting her mama's heart.
