"He cannot be serious.", Amelia complained angrily once she and Owen had walked through the bedroom into their bathroom. Leo had barely said good night to her and was now sleeping on his father's side of the bed, but close enough to the edge that his dad had to be in the middle today.

She sighed and started brushing her teeth, staring into her own tired eyes, and letting herself tear up. She was exhausted, she was angry, and she was sad. Suddenly she started sniffling, causing her husband, who hadn't started brushing his own teeth yet, to glance over at her with worry in his eyes.

"Hey...", Owen mumbled and wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her left shoulder as he tightly hugged his crying wife, watching the first tears make their way down her cheeks through the mirror. "He'll have forgotten about it tomorrow.", he promised.

"I know.", the brunette sobbed after cleaning her toothbrush and rinsing her mouth. "But I am just tired of being everyone's punching bag. You supported the time-out and he decided that I am the only one he'd be pissed at. Is it that easy to hate me?"

"Babe, he doesn't hate you, nobody does.", the trauma surgeon tried to soothe her by slowly rocking them back and forth. "He was testing his boundaries. Don't question yourself like that. It's impossible to hate you."

"James' parents will tell you otherwise.", his wife reminded him. Whenever she was in a bad place, her mind went back to remembering her past. "This week wasn't the greatest.", she added quietly, and her husband knew that she wasn't referring to the weekend.

"I don't speak dumbassish, so I wouldn't understand a word they say.", the redhead replied, actually getting her to chuckle for a second because he always knew how to make her feel better. "And I agree. I also get that Leo's behavior is making you sad but try not to let it get to you. If he knew how much it breaks your heart, he wouldn't even be doing it. He's a toddler. Your brother is here and will fly home tomorrow, let's enjoy the remaining hours we have with them.", he softly suggested, kissing the tears off her cheeks. "And also, you can be my big spoon then.", he smiled.

"Okay.", Amelia whispered and sniffled one more time, before she finished her bedtime routine next to him as he brushed his teeth. "I'm glad we didn't get divorced.", she informed her husband as another bad memory hit her brain.

"Ask me about it.", Owen agreed and scoffed. "Hope I'm doing quite well while using my second chance.", he told her, watching her smile at him and wink, which was how he got his answer. "Now let's go to bed."

"Why am I not in between you?", Leo wondered as he woke up to shuffling on the bed and noticed that the position he was currently in wasn't his usual one. He couldn't remember why.

"Leo, this is not funny.", his father explained, not in the mood to see his wife hurting another time today, but the boy sat up and actually looked confused. "Stop this, it's very late.", he warned the toddler.

"No, but I was laying in the middle over there when I fell asleep.", the mini blonde whined, pointing to the spot he had once slept in. "That is my spot.", he reminded his parents, thinking his dad had stolen it. "I wanna be in the middle!", he complained as tears filled his eyes.

"Alright, you can be.", his mother meddled, at first, she hadn't really been paying attention believing this was just another one of the kid's ways to make her mad at him, but now he was actually looking sad. "Climb over here."

"This is my spot.", the four-year-old let his parents know another time once he was laying in between them again and in case they had forgotten. Owen still wasn't sure if this was a show or not, but just shrugged it off after glancing at his wife, who turned off the lamp on her bedside table.

"Yes, it is.", Amelia nodded. "And now you have it back, so it's time for you to fall back asleep, Sweetie.", she informed her child and laid down herself after receiving a good night kiss from her husband.

"Mama.", Leo started again, two minutes later, facing his mother's side and waiting for her to react to him calling her. "Mama.", he whispered again, hearing his father sigh behind him.

"What?", the neurosurgeon wondered, opening her eyes to look at the small kid in front of her, although it was pretty dark in here and the moon was the only source of light. "You are supposed to sleep."

"Yeah, but we aren't snuggling.", her son pointed out, sounding really sad. "And I don't know why.", he added since usually they always did. "But I love you.", he mumbled sadly.

"Come here, Honey.", the brunette told him and opened her arms for the toddler to scoot into her hug. "I love you, too.", she said, kissing his head. "Now sleep well and have sweet dreams.", she ended the conversation.
