Owen was nervously standing outside the house. He knew that his wife hadn't been happy with his decision to go back and serve but he had not expected her to send Megan to pick him up from the airport.

"Hey!", he softly greeted her once she opened the door for him, his face lighting up upon seeing her. He came closer to kiss her, but Amelia didn't let him and took a step back, holding the door open for him to come in.

"Hi.", she quickly responded. "The kids are waiting for you in the living room.", was the only other thing she said to him. He sighed, setting his luggage down in the hallway before he went to see his children.

"Daddy!", the brunette heard the oldest three. She followed her husband and watched him hug them. Then, he moved over to the playpen, in which the twins were currently sitting since she couldn't watch them while opening the door.

"Hey, you two!", Owen said to his babies, lifting Luna into his arms once she reached for him. He noticed that Lucas, on the other hand, wasn't interested in him at all and just stared. "You wanna cuddle with daddy, too?", he asked the boy.

"Leave him alone.", Amelia grumbled, taking her son back out of the playpen to let him go play. He watched the one-year-old grab a book and hand it to Logan, who put it onto the couch before he sat down and lifted his brother into his lap to read it to him.

"Daddy, let's draw together!", Layla requested, grasping her father's hand as he still stared at his distanced wife. He had expected her to be pissed but she was acting really coldly towards him.

"Let your dad take a shower first, sweetheart.", the neurosurgeon told her daughter. "You can give Ellie a snack meanwhile.", she suggested and lifted Luna into her little chair, where she wouldn't be able to hurt herself and got to play with the colorful cups, while Leo joined his sister in playing and feeding the dog.

---

"I'm glad to be back.", the trauma surgeon told his wife after bringing Logan and Layla to bed as she had done the same with Leo and the twins. "Amelia...", he begged for some kind of reaction. "Let's talk please. Aren't you happy that I am home?"

"Here are some sheets for the guest bedroom, enjoy.", the brunette answered and put them into his arms. "El, get into your bed.", she said to the husky, who did just that. "Night, Owen."

"Are you serious?!", her husband raised his voice and threw the sheets onto their bed. "Stop being such a bitch to me! I love you and you love me, so don't act this way! Let's have a conversation about whatever it is that makes you angry at me."

"I do not love you.", Amelia clarified, catching him off guard. "Get out and take those with you.", she ordered, pointing to the sheets. "The only reason you're sleeping in this house tonight is that you are the father of my kids."

"Please...", the redhead tried to make her give in one more time, but she just ignored him. "Okay, good night.", he whispered in defeat before he left the bedroom. Just now did he realize how badly he had screwed up. He had expected her to be angry, but he didn't think she would be that pissed.

"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!", his wife angrily questioned an hour later when she walked into her son's room, only to find him holding the silently crying and shaking Lucas. "You don't get to just touch him!", she yelled.

"Are you crazy?!", Owen fought back since this was getting ridiculous now. "He is my child too, of course I do!", he argued, watching her rip the boy out of his hands. He noticed the twin's distraught facial expression as he clung to his mother.

"Nobody gets to just touch Lucas.", the neurosurgeon repeated, trying to calm down the baby, who didn't make any noise as tears rolled down his cheeks and his lower lip trembled. "He's not like other kids.", she informed him before she took him with her.

"Mama...", the mini redhead mumbled almost without any sound as he held onto his mother for dear life and sobbed into her, holding the fabric of her sweatshirt tightly in his tiny hands.

"I know. I've got you.", the brunette promised, finally calming him down again. "You're okay. Mommy's got you. He didn't want to hurt you, he wanted to help.", she let her child know, kissing his forehead gently.

"Woof!", Eleanor said, waggling her tail. She was waiting for her owner to put the baby onto the bed to protect him. Once Amelia did, the husky laid down next to Lucas, who snuggled into the dog.

His mother walked over to the closet to grab her old nursing pillow, which she still kept for moments like this. She trusted Ellie with her children but after all, she was still an animal. And she wouldn't notice right away if she accidentally suffocated the boy with her thick fur when they were cuddling.

Therefore, the neurosurgeon repositioned the baby with his head resting against the pillow and made sure, he was safe and that she could go back to sleep herself without worrying. El was still able to protect him with her snout next to his head.
