"Lunch is on us by the way.", Derek announced once the family had arrived at an Italian restaurant nearby. The owner had immediately pushed two larger tables together since they didn't originally have tables for twelve.
"Derek-", Owen started, but his friend interrupted him by telling him to stop because the Hunts were having them over all weekend and had paid for the museum tickets earlier. "Fine.", he sighed. "Okay, well. Who wants pasta?", he asked the children.
"Me!", Logan, Leo and Bailey raised their hands, causing Meredith and Amelia to help the two younger ones choose their lunch, while their husbands took care of the other kids that wanted pizza.
"Let's see if we can order two large pizzas for the five of you to share.", the male neurosurgeon said, knowing those were probably enough for the children because three of them were still really young and the other two wouldn't need a whole pizza, especially since there would be snack time in a few hours and they were grilling for dinner.
"Maybe a Margherita.", his brother-in-law suggested since the twins and Ellis wouldn't be fond of a pizza with too many toppings and didn't need that many either. "And you two can pick the other one.", he smiled at Layla and Zola.
"We want the one with salami, ham and mushrooms.", the older one of the two girls informed her uncle and father, who both nodded. "Which pasta did you pick?", she asked the boys.
"Bailey chose bolognese sauce, Leo wants normal tomato sauce and I have picked spaghetti carbonara.", Logan answered, very excited since he loved Italian food. "What are you eating?", he wanted to know from the adults.
"I'll have a salad with tuna and buffalo mozzarella.", Meredith, who also thought about the fact that there would be a huge dinner later, replied. "Maybe I can steal some of your uncle's pasta with seafood.", she winked at the boy, who giggled. "And you?", she questioned her sister and her husband.
"We'll share some bruschetta and a risotto with vegetables.", Amelia responded, already aware of the fact that the children would never be able to finish their orders, so they would have to help them eat everything.
Once Owen had ordered all the drinks and dishes, the children got to busy themselves by drawing, causing Luna and Lucas to be bored since they were not old enough to join them yet.
"Mama!", the little girl complained, hitting her chair for babies as she loudly sighed. "Dwaw!", she said, pointing to her siblings and cousins who were all having more fun than her. Her same-aged brother realized that he was currently not throwing a tantrum and decided to change that.
"Book, book, book, give me the book!", the brunette told her husband, who quickly grabbed it from her bag and handed it to her. "Let's read a story!", she suggested to the twins that were both sitting next to her while Owen was having Leo on his left and Luna on his right side at the table's end, whereas Derek was on Lucas' other side to make sure they could manage him together.
"Sto-wy!", her son gave his best in repeating the word he had just heard, already understanding it, causing the adults to cheer proudly, of course quietly since they were in a restaurant. "Mama!", he told his mother to start reading.
"Koah Koala and Kai Kangaroo, Lulah Echidna and Wallaubry too. Miss Winnie Emu, all gathered that day to celebrate something – hip, hip hooray!", the neurosurgeon began, showing the pictures to the babies.
"Mama, I can't see anything!", Layla said from where she was sitting next to Leo, also in the mood to listen in, warming her mom's heart because now she was behaving like a seven-year-old again and not like a teenager.
"You know what? Maybe Uncle Derek can help me and read too after showing you the first picture. We can all take turns.", Amelia decided, looking at the other adults who all agreed with her by nodding.
"Five bright balloons made of sparkly stuff. Cupcakes and chippies and – well, that's enough.", her brother continued reading. "Not at all!", wails Miss Lulah Echidna, who dreams of bowls of sweet chocolates and strawberries and cream."
"Luna?", Ellis wondered, also listening to the story. She looked at her cousin. "That's her name.", she beamed, but her mother let her know that the character was named Lulah, which sounded much like Luna but wasn't the same name.
"So, there's more and there's more!", Meredith read after taking the book from her husband. "Chewy lollies and bread with magic blue sparkles to keep them well-fed. Yummy warm sausages, red jelly beans, ice-creams and yoghurt and sweet nectarines."
"It's Koah Koala who's the star of the show. He's one whole year old now, didn't you know?", Owen's turn was next. "He crawls and he smiles and he's ready to play as they give him a hug for his special birthday.", he finished the book, right on time before the first dishes arrived and they could start eating.

a/n: I found the book online and it's a little longer than in the chapter, so if anyone wants to read it to anybody or just wants to know how it actually ends, just search for "Koah Koala" on a webpage called Storyberries. :)
