You're Mine

chapter 5

Monday, June 12th:

"Hi, Amy!", Derek greeted his sister, who was eating fries at their usual table in the cafeteria. He sat down across from her after putting down his pasta and water. "Enjoy your food!"

"Oh, fuck you!", the brunette insulted him madly, causing his eyes to widen at her outburst. Since the table wasn't too far away from where Meredith and Owen stood in line to get their lunch, they were able to notice something was going on between the siblings. "You have done some shitty things to me Derek, but not inviting James and me for your movie night when everyone else was there, even our son...that's a new level of disrespect."

"I told him it was a bad idea.", her sister-in-law mumbled towards her friend behind her, who wasn't so sure about Derek's way of approaching this either. "Of course, she's pissed."

"Amelia, this has nothing to do with you and you know it. I told you, as long as you're with that guy, I will minimize our contact. Logan though, doesn't get to have an opinion on James because whenever he tries to say something against him, you scold him for it, meaning he gets to come to family movie nights. I do not approve of your relationship.", the male neurosurgeon reminded Amelia.

"Oh, King Derek does not like who I want to spend my life with, of course I'll bow to him and make sure to ignore my feelings for the love of my life because he said so.", his sister kept arguing angrily.

"Stop acting like the victim! This is not about your feelings for a man, it's about James being a fucking stalker and the way he controls you. I won't repeat myself anymore. I want to protect you and you aren't letting me, so this is what you have to live with. I don't want that creep around my family.", Derek explained once more.

"Hi...", Meredith quietly greeted the siblings when she and Owen joined them, but her sister-in-law chose the same moment to get up and leave the table with her lunch, not in the mood to hear any more harassment towards her boyfriend.

"You don't want James in your life, yeah?", Amelia questioned her brother seriously. He slowly nodded since he had just said that. "Well, then have a great one. No James means no me and no Logan for any of you. I actually did think highly of you, Owen. But of course, just let my brother talk you into being anti my boyfriend too. From today on, you're Chief Hunt to me again and the three of you, including Maggie, are dead to me."

"Amy, come back here!", her brother yelled after her, now really afraid of actually having lost her. "Amelia Frances Shepherd!", he repeated but it was of no use. She threw away the rest of her fries and then left the cafeteria. "Fuck! James just got what he wanted."

"We need a plan as of right now!", his wife pointed out, just as scared of what was to come. "She actually believes that their relationship is healthy.", she realized in shock. "What do we do?"

"Fire him?", the brunette suggested, not sure about what to do. "If you fire him Owen, he can't control her here at work and we get to talk to her alone.", he shared his plan, thinking it was a great one.

"She just decided that we aren't friends anymore. If I fire James now, she is going to quit too, and we might not ever get to see her again. Give it time. Amelia is angry now, but she will calm down rather soon.", Owen figured.

"He's right.", Meredith agreed. "Wait, is that him?", she questioned after noticing a man staring at them from around the corner behind the glass doors of the cafeteria entrance.

"There's nobody.", her husband said after taking a look. "It's his day off. If he was here and one of us saw him, it would be way too obvious that he's stalking Amy and the people who are close to her."

"Shepherd, I need a consult.", the redhead told his colleague after paging her. She got to work without even looking at him. "Amelia, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have meddled, but you matter to me. You are...were my friend and I like you."

"I liked you too, until you chose to team up against my boyfriend together with my brother.", the brunette let him know. "Who I love, which is more important to me than some friendship with my boss. Patient's fine."

"Note taken. Any other planned surgeries you had on your schedule for today are cancelled, Derek is going to take over. You have a whole week of paperwork to do. I am not too strict with my friends but since our relationship is work-related only, here you go, Dr. Shepherd.", Owen chose to use his authority on her.

"Are you kidding me? Now you're punishing me although you are the asshole?", Amelia questioned angrily, realizing a second later that he was still her boss and she had just insulted him in front of the ER staff.

"Kepner, take over here. Shepherd, I'll see you in my office in no more than five minutes!", the trauma surgeon ordered strictly, leaving her standing there with everybody's eyes on her.

"You provoked me down there!", Amelia stormed into Owen's office without knocking, only infuriating him more. "Stop using your position to win this fight that you started!", she shouted at him.

"Are you out of your mind, Dr. Shepherd? I am your boss! You don't ever speak to me this way or your behavior is going to have worse consequences than this time. Sit down, do the paperwork. It's also nice to see that you are in fact able to talk back to other people, maybe it would be more relevant to do so with the man that acts like you're his property! You might be in love with him but he's still dangerous and I wish you would let the people who care about you help instead of shutting them out, Amelia.", the redhead argued.

James: I'll come pick you up after work. Logan gets to watch a show until we're back.
