"Anton?", Amelia took the call shortly after they had finished putting the groceries into the fridge. They were going to stay home for half an hour before they would get the three younger kids. "Why are you calling?", she wondered, kind of scared of the answer, putting the phone on speaker, so her husband could listen in as well.
"Everything is under control.", the blonde started slowly, which was an indication that it hadn't been earlier. "I was outside with some of the kids that had already finished their little snack and a colleague stayed inside with the others. They were having apples and Luna swallowed a piece that was way too huge for her small throat. My colleague called for help, I ran back inside, and I got it out. We still called an ambulance though and I am at the hospital with her. I need you to come here right now."
"Are you...are you saying that my baby almost choked on a piece of apple?", the brunette questioned, as she started crying. "Which hospital is she at?", she asked, glancing at Owen who was looking like he was going to faint.
"St. Ambrose since your husband works there. I am saying that there was a dangerous situation which I have gotten under control. You need to come here, and we are going to speak about everything else once you have seen your very healthy girl.", the daycare teacher said. "I understand that this is an information you didn't ever wanna hear, but it happened. Now we need to deal with the consequences. But what mainly counts is that Luna is totally fine."
"Yeah, yeah, okay. I am on my way.", the neurosurgeon sniffled into the phone. "Bye.", she hung up. Her husband was leaning against the kitchen sink, just staring at her until he couldn't take it anymore and left out a loud sob, trying to find a way to breathe through his pain. "Honey, she's okay."
"No...no, she's not. She could have died, Amelia!", the redhead cried, feeling his wife embrace him tightly. "Our daughter almost died.", he repeated, not able to believe his own words that were coming out of his mouth as he sobbed into her.
"But she didn't.", Amelia tried to stay sane as well as she could. "You're gonna call in Eleanor, at least she had a potty break. And I am going to call down Layla.", she made a plan. "I'll drive.", she also decided, noticing that her husband wasn't going to be able to do so under the given circumstances.
Once they arrived at St. Ambrose Hospital, they stormed inside and met Anton at the check-in. He was looking super guilty although it hadn't been him who hadn't watched Luna properly.
"Where is she?", Owen yelled. Thinking clearly was something he couldn't care less about right now. A nurse took over and lead the couple and their daughter to a room, where Cooper was playing with the small girl who looked completely fine.
"BABY!", the brunette exclaimed joyfully upon seeing her twin, whose face lit up as she saw her family members. "You're okay, mommy and daddy are here now.", she promised, lifting her into her arms to hug her.
"Mama, me ok.", Luna explained. She knew that she hadn't been feeling great earlier and it had hurt not to able to breathe, but ever since Cooper had examined her after Anton had saved her, she was feeling quite good.
"I am very glad that you are.", her mother replied, handing her daughter to her husband, so he could express his concern and happiness as well. "Thank you!", she told the supervisor, embracing him too. "You saved her.", she finally realized, feeling him hug her back.
Once the neurosurgeon had broken the hug, she walked back over to Owen who had watched her and Anton, causing her to be unsure about his reaction. He just gave their child back to her and started walking towards the other man.
"OWEN-", Amelia and Cooper panicked at the same time and were about to pull him back, when he hugged the blonde as well as he thanked him for saving their daughter's life.
Layla was looking kind of scared. Her parents had explained to her what had happened during the car ride, but she was too young to really understand if her sister was fine now or not. Since this afternoon had been a lot for her, considering she had said goodbye to her brother and was now overthinking if Luna was going to live or die, she started crying.
"Sweetie, it's okay.", the brunette told her child and sat down on the floor, which caused the seven-year-old to do the same as she scooted over to her mom and sister. "Luna is alright. Uncle Cooper can tell you again, he's her doctor."
"She's doing great, Honey.", the pediatrician agreed. "I've checked her twice. Mr. Grady did a wonderful job.", he added, causing the girl's eyes to light up upon hearing her knight in shining armor's name.
"Maybe we can go on a date then?", Layla figured, hugging her mother and sister at the same time as she hopefully glanced at the adults in the room. Anton looked kind of helpless, not wanting to break the girl's heart another time, but also not happy about the thought of going to prison.
"Well, I guess that is a clear no, Sweetheart.", Owen answered. "But considering he saved your sister today, I think the least we can do is to invite him to dinner next week.", he offered, surprising his wife and the daycare teacher at the same time. "If you're up for it?", he wanted to know, looking at the other man.
"Sure.", the blonde smiled. "Thank you.", he gratefully responded. "I think I'm gonna get back to the daycare now though.", he announced after having taken a look at the time. "Gotta call a cab."
"We're picking up Lucas and Leo anyway, so feel free to drive with us. We've taken the van because three seats aren't enough for four kids.", Amelia pointed out. "Thank you, Coop.", she addressed her friend after signing out her daughter. "Bye."
