"Alrighty, goodbye baby-boy!", Amelia said to Logan, kissing his right cheek multiple times, causing him to role his eyes, which made everyone else laugh. "I love you, little bean!", she added with a smirk on her face.
"Mom, stop it! You'll be gone for two hours and no more. I am too old to be cuddled like some toddler.", the ten-year-old complained, crossing his arms. "Grandma, say something!", he tried to get back-up.
"Well, I cannot blame your mother because you guys grow up way too fast.", Evelyn softly explained and shrugged, smiling at her grandson. The neurosurgeon had moved on to her daughter by now.
"I hope you never stop snuggling with me, my sweet little angel.", she told her child, nuzzling the three-year-old's nose before she gave her a lot of kisses as well, which Layla absolutely loved and enjoyed. "And now you, Leo-bear! Goodbye, cutie pie! See you in two hours!"
"Not you being that dramatic every time you leave for physical therapy.", Owen meddled, shaking his head in amusement as he stared at his friend in awe. "But I will miss you a lot.", he shyly smiled, receiving a kiss to his lips.
"I think I love you, Owen.", Amelia whispered into his ear, not totally ready to say it out loud in front of everyone but wanting him to know. "I'll miss you, too.", she continued for everybody to hear. "And now you will lose against Teddy since she wanted to play Wizard with you guys, and I lost yesterday."
"Girls support girls!", Layla yelled happily, waving her mom goodbye, when she watched her leave the room to put on her shoes and jacket. Her father's cheeks were still red from the way he had blushed when she had told him that she loved him.
---
"Derek, hey!", the trauma surgeon greeted his friend when he noticed that he was calling in the middle of their game. "What's up?", he wondered. Layla and Logan were playing in her room and Leo was napping. "Yeah, she left an hour ago. Her appointment started at 10:30. She walked. Why are you asking me all of this? What do you mean she never arrived?"
"What?", Megan asked after listening to her brother's words. His face had gone pale, and worry took over his eyes. "Owen, what's happening?", she questioned. By now, all of them had put down their cards and just stared at him.
"The police found her phone? And we are supposed to just wait?", Owen asked again after Derek had told him so. "Are they kidding? I am not going to just wait!", he pointed out. "Yes, I get that...fine. Yes, I'll call you in case she comes back.", he said. "Bye."
"So, Amelia's gone?", Teddy wanted to know, watching her best friend tear up at the thought. He let himself fall back onto his chair and put his head in his hands on the table. Evelyn got up to hug him.
"I should never have let her go alone.", the redhead blamed himself. "What am I going to tell the children? And when will this fucking universe stop hurting the love of my life? We all know what happened. And I don't know if she is able to survive another kidnapping."
"Darling, we don't know yet if she has been kidnapped. So, until we know more, we aren't telling the children anything. If they ask, she's at work because of an emergency.", his mother prepared a plan.

"Where's my mom?", Logan asked Owen and Teddy, who were sitting on the couch. His siblings were napping, and the blonde had been staying over ever since his mother hadn't come home. "She's not at work. She wouldn't leave us for that long after everything that has happened. So, where is she?", he questioned, crossing his arms.
"Sweetie...", Owen sighed, deciding to tell him as much as they knew. "Come sit, please.", he softly demanded and motioned for the boy to sit in between him and his best friend. "The police think that she's been kidnapped by James' parents since they never caught them after they had shot her. But there are no hints on her whereabouts."
"What?", the ten-year-old started crying. "Again?", he sobbed. "And you just sit here and act like everything is fine?! I thought you loved her!", he screamed, got up and ran into his room to hide from the world.
"I've got him. You know, he does not mean it, Owen.", Teddy reminded the trauma surgeon and gently stroked his cheek before she left to talk to the boy. "He's just in pain because of everything that's been happening.", she added.
"Go away!", the young brunette mumbled into his pillow while his body was shaking because he was crying so much. "Just leave me alone!", he said again but didn't fight the cardio surgeon, who was stroking his back. "She doesn't deserve this!", he said after five minutes of silence.
"No, you're right, buddy. She definitely doesn't.", the blonde agreed. "But right now, there's nothing to do but wait for her to get rescued. We cannot do anything because we aren't the police and there are truly no hints at all about where she could be. I understand that you need someone to be mad at, but don't make your father that person since he is in pain, too. And all he's trying to do is to protect you guys and be there for you."
"They tried to kill my mom once, they will finish what they have started this time and then he won't be my dad anymore anyway.", Logan replied, a little off topic. "Both of my parents will be dead, and I'll end up in a foster home."
"I'm never going to let that happen, baby!", Owen promised. He had decided to join Teddy in talking to his son. "Do you hear me? I am your father, and you are my child, and nobody is ever going to take you from me.", he repeated. "And mommy will be found very soon. Then we can make sure, that nobody hurts her anymore."
