Request - How about we can have it that Kayce and Reader are an established family like the kids and a horse/dog and John asks for Kayce to come back to the ranch and they have to tell the kids and move the whole family over?
"Dad's home!" Your oldest, seven-year-old Tate, yelled from the living room,
"Daddy!" Your youngest, three-year-old Piper, smiled up at you as you finished putting on her shoes.
"Wait for your sister!" You called out to Tate as Piper got up and ran out of your bedroom.
You stood up and brushed off. your jeans as you walked down the hall to the front door. Rolling your eyes as it was left open, you stepped out and closed it behind you. Your dog, Tate having named him Dog a year ago, ran off after the kids trying to herd them.
Kayce had pulled his truck up with the trailer attached to it near the small corral he finished building a few days ago. He was at the back of the trailer bending down to pick Tate up as Piper ran up to them.
It. had taken some convincing, but Kayce now had a horse for all of you to use. You liked reminding him that you wouldn't 'use' the horse, but you were still happy for your little family. The closer you got though, the more you heard the horse bucking inside the trailer.
"Bet it was funny getting him in that," You said to Kayce.
"Momma! Horse?" Piper pointed.
You picked her up on your hip.
"How are you gonna get him out?" You asked Kayce as he sat Tate down.
"I'm making this up as I go, baby," Kayce smiled at you and he looked so much younger.
You reached for Tate's shoulder and pulled him back as Kayce opened the trailer's door and stepped inside. A few seconds later, a gray Mustang backed out. and quickly ran into the corral. Dog growled at the horse, but quieted down with Kayce there. He was wild, even you could tell that as you watched him look around his new home.
"Can I ride him?" Tate asked, standing on the fence.
"No fear. in this one," Kayce patted Tate's side. "He gets that from you."
You stepped over to them.
"He's..." You trailed off as you saw another truck headed down the dirt road to your home.
Kayce followed your eyes and you heard him sigh. You knew that truck, even if you hadn't seen one in a few years.
"What's he doing here?" You asked Kayce.
"No idea," Kayce shook his head.
"Who is it?" Tate asked and Kayce looked at you for guidance.
"That's your grandpa, Tate," You frowned.
**
You looked out the kitchen window at Kayce and John speaking to one another. After a short hello, you took the kids inside the house.
There were deep scars in you especially Kayce, from John Dutton. Yes, he was your children's grandfather, but as their mother, it was your right to protect them. You couldn't see Kayce's face, but you watched. John's irritation and then defeated looks pass across him throughout the conversation. About five more minutes passed and John got back in his truck and left.
You went out the door and met Kayce where he was still standing.
"Hey," You said softly and placed your hand on his arm. "What was that about?"
Kayce gave you an odd look. It was a mix of the look he gave you when he knew he was in trouble, mixed with one of caution. You stepped in front of him and looked up into his eyes.
