Request - Can we get a one-shot that's sort of AU from the traditional Yellowstone and the Reader and Kayce used to date. But then they broke up when he enlisted and she went off to school. Christmas break comes and she finds out about Kayce and Monica getting pregnant (even though she's not with Kayce) and she actually is there for him in a sad moment for Kayce. Then it's the next Christmas break and Tate is born and she meets Kayce again in town with Tate but is married to Monica. Then maybe another Christmas break and Kayce separated from Monica....you can see how I'm going! You can break it up however you want!

Author's Note - So I took this as a long, multi-part story...hope it's done justice!

Christmas Break Number One

"You sure you don't mind?" Your mom asked.

"It's fine, Mom," You smiled. "Plus I can walk around town some and see things."

"This is what happens when you go to school in Tennessee," She smirked as you walked out the front door.

You were home for the Christmas break of your sophomore year at the University of Tennessee. It had honestly been almost a year since you've been home. Long story short, you and your high school boyfriend broke up after graduation. Kayce went into the military much to your protest, which made you choose Tennessee over Wyoming. You wanted as far away from Kayce as you could get. You stayed on campus for most of the holidays, besides the forty-eight. hours you spent here at home last Christmas break. You even got an internship last summer on a dude ranch in South Dakota during the summer.

But for this Christmas, your parents had begged you to come for the full break. You thought time would be your friend too with how much had passed.

You drove into town and stopped at the post office first before making your way down to the battery shop for your dad. When you walked inside you saw a boy you had gone to school with but was two years ahead of you.

"Hey Y/N," He smiled.

"Hey Grayson," You nodded. "How are you?"

"Good," Grayson said. "Didn't think we'd see you again here."

"Yeah, I sort of took the whole move away for school things too seriously in my first year," You laughed.

"How's it been?" Grayson asked. "Tennessee right?"

"Yeah," You said. "It's been good...tough, but I like it. How's things for you?"

"Helping my dad." Grayson motioned to the store. "But it's good hours and pay."

"That's good," You smiled. "I'm just picking up some batteries for my dad."

"What's he need?" Grayson asked and stepped behind the counter.

You told him what your dad needed and watched as Grayson piled up your order. You glanced out the window and saw everyone was bundled up as they hurried about their day.

"It'll be thirteen eighty-seven," Grayson said.

"Thanks," You handed him a twenty.

"So...seen anyone from school?" Grayson asked as he bagged your items.

"Uh...just you," You said. "But it's my first day out."

"Nice," Grayson said. "Well, Jessica Letterman opened a cafe down on Parkhill."

"Really?"  You asked. "I'll have to go see...I thought she was in Texas?"

"Lasted a semester before moving back here," Grayson said. "Think she had a bad breakup."
