Request – Part Two of Apartment Door.

"I think this was a mistake," You said from the passenger seat of Kayce's truck.

"You're fine," Kayce reached over and patted your leg as he drove past the Reservation sign.

"If she says anything we could just shoot her?" Beth offered from the back seat.

"Not helping," Kayce snapped.

"I can just stay in the truck," You sighed, closing your eyes.

"For two hours?" Kayce asked.

"This thing is two hours?" Beth asked.

"Can you not speak for like, two minutes?" Kayce glanced back at his sister. "Stop making things worse."

You shook your head, opening your eyes and seeing the trailers in the distance where you knew Monica and Tate would be. The good thing was that there would be other people there. Hopefully, after her initial range, Monica would just leave you alone and you would reciprocate the action to her.

Getting out of the truck, you walked around and stood in between Kayce and Beth. John's truck pulled up and he and Jamie got out of it. The first thing you noticed was how everyone outside was staring at the group.

"Feel like I'm on fucking show," John cleared his throat, glancing at the others, and then walking forward.

They all piled in after him, walking around Monica's trailer and over to a makeshift barn where there were tables and chairs brought out, a few balloons around.

You made sure to walk behind Kayce as you saw Monica notice the group. The frown on her face was deep as she walked around a table and out to meet you all.

"Hey," Kayce said as if he didn't have you behind him.

"What is she doing here?" Monica asked, staring directly at you.

"Daddy!" Tate came barreling down the path.

Kayce smiled as he turned around, leaning down to scoop Tate up into a big hug. The sight made you smile, loving seeing Kayce be a father. When your eyes looked back at Monica you saw she was still staring at you, still frowning.

"I won't cause a problem," You started.

"You weren't invited to begin with," Monica snapped.

"Why can't Y/N be here but I can?" Beth asked.

"Because you're family," Monica looked at her. "Whether I want it or not."

"Monica," Kayce sighed as he sat Tate down. "Can we please just all enjoy this for Tate?"

Tate ran over to you, wrapping his arm around your waist. You smiled down at him, kneeling and wrapping your arms around him in a tight hug.

"Happy Birthday, buddy," You whispered. "Do you feel older?"

"I don't know?" Tate shrugged.

"How about wiser?" You giggled.

"Like an owl?" Tate laughed.

"Whooooo," You said, making Tate mimic you.

"Whoooo," Tate cupped your cheeks as you both giggled.

"You wanna help me with your gifts in the truck?" You asked Tate, feeling like it gave you a chance to walk away from Monica.

"Sure," You and Tate walked off.

You glanced over your shoulder and were surprised to see John saying something to Monica, Kayce watching with a worried look on his face. Monica said something back, but ultimately walked away, holding her hands up as if she were done.

"Mom's in a mood," Tate said as you handed him one of his packages.

"A mood?" You asked him.

"Grouchy," Tate nodded.

"She's just jealous it ain't her birthday," You ruffled his hair as you both walked back over.

Beth took the gifts in your arms and she, along with John, walked over to one of the tables with Tate. Kayce stood next to you, his eyes shining in the sunlight.

"I need to leave, don't I?' you asked him.

"No, baby," Kayce shook his head. "You can stay."

"I can?" You were shocked. "What? How?"

"Dad, actually," Kayce nodded toward John. "He told Monica that when she invites us, you're included now...and if there's a problem with that then he can ask his friend who's a judge about custody arrangements."

"He said that?" You asked and Kayce nodded. "He can do that?"

"He owns like half the bench I think," Kayce shrugged. "I don't care...I want you with me and this way...I get that."

"Y/N! Come here and look at my dinosaur bones!" Tate called from over by one of the corrals.

You looked back at Kayce and smiled.

"Thank you," You reached up and kissed his cheek, not wanting to do more with Monica's eyes still on you.

You went to step away when Kayce pulled you back into him, his arms wrapping around your back and holding you against him.

"Kayce..." You rested your hands against his chest.

"Kiss me," Kayce smirked, leaning his lips close to yours.

"It ain't your birthday," You giggled, pushing his cheek away.

"Don't make me beg," Kayce mumbled, swaying you slightly.

You shook your head, sliding your hands up to Kayce's cheeks. Gently you pressed your lips to his and kissed him.
