Request - Reader and kayce are dating, have been since teenagers. Reader is also Beth's best friend; when Beth gets attacked, the reader saves her instead of rip. Later in the evening after everyone's back at the house, the reader and kayce are in bed, and Beth kicks kayce out to lay with reader instead.' (As friends of course, maybe it's Beth's way of feeling safe?)
You winced as the doctor pulled the last piece of glass from your hand. He looked up at you from where he was kneeling before you sat on the couch. Kayce held your shoulders, just in case you jerked back.
"This would be easier at a hospital," He told you.
"Not hospitals," John said from the side. "This can't be on the books."
"Can't imagine why?" The doctor said sarcastically.
You looked around the office. The conference room windows were smashed in, hence your busted hand. There were two men on the floor and blood on the walls and table. Beth looked like she had gone twelve rounds and you were sure you didn't look much better.
She was currently sitting at the conference table. Rip was next to her. The doctor had worked her over first.
"I'd really like for you both to go to the clinic," The doctor said again.
"Thanks for your help," John replied curtly.
The doctor sighed, standing up and nodding to John before walking away. You finally relaxed some, looking up at Kayce. His frown was deep and you could tell he was fighting internally between caring for you and acting on what happened.
You weren't ever sure what took place. These two men came into the office dressed in masks and had guns. You and Beth had been sipping wine, unwinding from the long week. Then they attacked you both. You were sure their plan was to kill Beth and you were just collateral. But it was you smashing the glass ashtray against the one guy's head that turned the tables for you both. Before he could get up, you were over to the other guy who had Beth pinned against the table and you smashed his head too.
"I'll drive you home," Kayce's voice brought you back to reality.
"Our home," Beth spoke up for the first time.
"That's what I meant," Kayce said.
You stood up slowly, your body feeling all the action from earlier. Kayce kept his arm around your waist as you all walked out of the office. He helped you into the passenger seat of his truck.
"Kayce?" John said as he walked by. "We handle this tomorrow...take care of her tonight."
Kayce didn't say anything but finished getting you into the truck. About two hours later, you were brushing your teeth in the bathroom connected to Kayce's room. After finishing, you turned the light off and found Kayce sitting on the edge of the bed.
"How're you feeling?" He asked you.
"Tired," You sighed. "I know I'll be sore tomorrow."
"Here," Kayce stood up and pulled down the sheets for you to get into the bed.
You laid back against the pillows and sighed. It felt good to fully relax against the cool sheets. Kayce walked around and got in on his side. You watched him pull his shirt off and look over at you.
Being careful, you moved until you could rest your cheek against his chest. Kayce wrapped his arm around you and leaned his cheek against your forehead. The two of you lay there for a while, just listening to each other breathe.
"Do you know who did it?" You asked softly.
"Yeah," Kayce replied.
You wrapped your arm around his middle. A few more minutes of silence passed.
