Request - Hey, I would like to request a Halloween special for Kayce. Maybe he comes home to the cabin and it's all decorated for Halloween. He's throwing off at first, but he goes along with it, putting on the Halloween PJs she got him and watching Halloween movies. Just a very sweet chapter and maybe at the end he admits to her he's not celebrated Halloween before or since his mom died. Maybe she shocked because he just went along with it so easily so she figured he has celebrated in the past few years
You finished placing the new pieces of wood on the fire, watching the flames pick up some now with new things to burn. Standing back up, you heard Kayce's truck pull up in front of the foreman's cabin. He was about a month in as Montana's new Livestock Commissioner. Now, he'd never admit it, but you could see him enjoying it.
Smoothing out your orange sweater you smiled. It was Halloween night and you had on your orange sweater and matching pumpkin pajamas bottoms. The room smelled like apple cider and cinnamon, fresh cookies were cooling on the counter.
You had carved a pumpkin, it was on the front porch already. There was a garland of ghosts hanging from the mantle above the fireplace. You even found some pumpkin placemats for supper later.
You knew trick or treaters weren't a thing on the ranch, but that didn't mean movies and sweets weren't! The front door opened and you saw Kayce step inside.
"Hey," You smiled.
"Hey," Kayce closed the door, pulling his coat off and hanging it next to his hat.
You watched him walk up to you, his eyes dancing around and landing on a folded black sweater and bottoms on the chair. He looked at you, pressing his lips to your cheek. As Kayce pulled back, his eyes traveled down your outfit.
"Happy Halloween," You felt your smile grow.
"Looks like it," Kayce nodded.
"These are yours," You reached over and handed him his pajamas. "Go put them on and I'll get supper started."
"Put them on?" Kayce asked you, looking between you and the clothes.
"Yeah, silly," You laughed as you walked over to the kitchen.
Kayce left quietly, coming back about twenty minutes later with damp hair and the pajamas on. He looked funny, but it made your heart swell seeing him sit at the table while you brought over a beer for him. You took your seat next to him as the two of you ate your meal.
After supper, you told Kayce to get the movie started. He gave you another funny look but walked over to the TV while you cleaned up things. As you came back over, you grabbed the plate of cookies.
Kayce looked up at you as you sat the cookie plate down on the coffee table before sitting next to him. His arm draped around you as you pulled a blanket over both of you. The opening credits to Hocus Pocus started as you leaned against Kayce. The two of you ate the cookies while you watched the film.
You glanced at Kayce a few times and saw him following along intently, as if he'd never seen this before. But surely he had?
A few hours later, the two of you had climbed into bed and turned the lights out. The moon was shining through one of the windows as your head rested on Kayce's chest.
"Can I ask you a question?" Kayce asked softly.
"Sure," You blinked slowly.
"So...what was with tonight?" Kayce's breathing was shallow now.
"Tonight?" You asked. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," Kayce cleared his throat. "Like the movie...and then pajamas and...everything."
You leaned up some so you could look down at Kayce.
"It's...Halloween?" You gave him a confused look.
"So you said," Kayce's hand rubbed up and down your back.
"So..." You trailed off. "It's...what you do?"
Kayce now looked confused.
"Or...not?" You sat up now. "Kayce...do you not celebrate Halloween?"
Kayce took a deep breath and surprised you by chuckling.
"What?" You gently pushed him.
You then started to realize something. For the most part, Halloween fell on a weekday. Which means that Kayce, if at all, rarely would have had Tate the past five years in Halloween. Which would also mean that he was probably alone the past few Halloweens.
"Oh," You slapped your forehead.
"Baby," Kayce pulled at your arm.
"I'm sorry," You told him.
"Don't be," Kayce smiled at you.
"I'm an idiot," You let him pull you back on top of him.
"No you ain't," Kayce smiled. "I just...haven't really celebrated Halloween in a long time."
You gave him a pout.
"Not since my mom really," Kayce tucked a piece of your hair behind your ear.
"Really?" You asked.
Kayce nodded.
"But I love that you did," He smiled.
"You didn't think I was too much?" You asked.
"You're always too much," Kayce smirked. "But I really liked the cookies."
"You did?" You felt better hearing that.
"Uh huh," Kayce nodded, pulling your lips down to his. "And you kind of cute in your pajamas."
"I knew you liked them," You joked, kissing him back.
"Hmm," Kayce pulled you under the covers with him, lips pressing against your neck.
