Request - Reader tells Kayce she loves him randomly over the day and Kayce tells her he loves her maybe they are watching the snow together cuddling up beside the fire.
You had been dating Kayce Dutton for a little over a month now. "Seeing" sounded too juvenile and "sleeping together" made you feel like it wasn't as serious as it was becoming in your mind. Plus, it took the poor guy almost two months to ask you out on a date...so maybe you were both a little behind on things.
You smiled where you sat on the couch as you watched Kayce tend to the fire roaring in the living room at the lodge on his family's ranch. You had been here a few times, each time being a little less awkward than the last. You enjoyed the ranch, loving the peacefulness in conjunction with the vastness of the land.
"Need help?" You smirked.
Kayce looked behind his shoulder at you with an irritated look.
"Did I ask for help?" He snapped.
"Just trying to be helpful," You bit your lip to stop the giggle threatening to fall. "I love you."
Kayce sighed and you knew you had him. Kayce was a rough and tough cowboy, but he had a soft side to him and you were the main center of his "gooey-point" you liked to tell him. He looked over his shoulder at you again and smiled.
"Love you too."
There was a large Christmas tree in the corner, but the lights were not on due to it being only four o'clock. The smell of the fresh pine was heavenly to you though. Kayce moved another log around before he was content with his creation. He stood up and brushed his hands on his jeans.
"Alright," He turned around and faced you. "You want something to drink?"
"Do you?" You asked him.
"I'd like a whiskey," Kayce told you. "But tea or something hot would be fine too."
"What about a hot toddy?" You stood up.
"What do you need for that?" Kayce asked.
"Come on," You smiled.
**
"That's it?" Kayce asked as you slid his glass toward him.
"That's it," You smiled, holding your glass in your hands and smelling the steam coming off it. "Simple, but tasty."
You watched Kayce take a sip and then nod his head slowly.
"Good, huh?" You took a sip of yours.
"Come with me," Kayce reached out and grabbed your hand in his, leading you back to the living room and cire.
The two of you laid out on one of the couches in front of the large windows. It had started to snow this morning when you woke up before Kayce came to get you. Now, the ranch looked like a winter wonderland in white outside. You were thankful you had agreed to spend the night for a few nights with Kayce. There was no way you were getting out in that again.
"Whatcha thinking?" Kayce asked you.
Your back was pressed against his front, his strong arms around you and holding you close. You felt wanted right now, you felt needed by Kayce. You even felt...loved. You were sure Kayce could probably feel your pulse beat against your skin.
"I love you," You murmured quietly.
Kayce's arms tightened around you. You felt his lips brush against your ear.
"I love you," Kayce told you.
The smile on your lips should have hurt with how large it was. You snuggled into his embrace as the two of you watched the snow fall down some more.
**
"Thought you said you didn't know how to cook?" You asked as Kayce pulled the dish out of the oven.
"Chicken spaghetti hardly counts as cooking," Kayce sat the dish on the stovetop. "But it's like the only thing from my mom I learned how to make."
"This is your mom's recipe?" You asked, setting two plates down so Kayce could dish out a helping to both.
"Yeah," He placed the plates in front of two car stools where some bread and wine glasses already were. "Don't cook it a lot."
"When's the last time you cooked it?" You sat down and watched Kayce walk around to sit next to you.
"Been a while," Kayce sat down. "Maybe a few years?"
"Well, I feel special," You smiled and picked up your fork.
"You are," Kayce took a bite of his but his words made you stop short of trying to noodles.
Kayce reached and took a sip of his wine before looking over at you. He saw you were still staring at him, still not having touched your food.
"What?" Kayce asked.
"Nothing," You smiled. "Just that I love you."
Kayce smiled as you took your bite.
"Damn," You said, glancing at your plate then Kayce. "Kayce..."
"I know," Kayce smirked.
"No, this is really good," You took another bite.
"Mom was a good cook," Kayce took another bite of his. "You two would have gotten along in the kitchen."
You smiled.
"Does she have any of her recipes written down somewhere?" You asked.
"There's a book I think in Dad's office," Kayce thought. "Somewhere."
"Maybe I could make some of her recipes then," You shrugged. "But this one is really good, babe."
Kayce now had a glazed look on his face at you mentioning cooking his mom's recipes. You were twirling your fork when you looked over at him again.
"I love you," Kayce said gently.
**
"This good? Or do you need another?" Kayce asked you, standing at the foot of his bed.
"I think it's okay," You snuggled under the covers.
Kayce had placed three more blankets on his bed once you got in. It was cold, and while there was a fire going, you knew the outside temperatures would only continue to drop more and more as the night went on.
"Don't think I actually have another," Kaye mumbled as he glanced around his room.
"Then get in here, cowboy," You laughed. "Your body heat will help as well.
"Yes, ma'am," Kayce smirked and climbed in with you.
You snuggled up to him and sighed out, content with your evening and how things were going. Kayce's arm around you held you against him and you listened to his heartbeat against his chest. His fingers traced patterns against your skin under the covers. The lights were off, the fire casting shadows against the walls.
"Whatcha thinking about?" You whispered to Kayce.
"You," Kayce answered. "Always you."
"You need better topics," You giggled, your cheeks warm.
You leaned up and looked down at Kayce.
"You're my favorite topic," Kayce smiled up at you.
"Nice answer," You leaned down and kissed him softly. "Thank you for letting me stay with you."
"You don't have to leave," Kayce kissed you again. "Could stay here?"
"I'd run out of clean clothes," You giggled.
"I have a washer," Kayce rolled you over and under him, his lips finding yours.
"You'd get sick of me," You wrapped your arms around his neck.
"Not a chance," Kayce shook his head, his lips brushing yours. "Don't get sick of things you love."
You smiled, pulling him down.
"I love you," You told him.
"I love you," Kayce said, sealing it with another kiss.
