What if Y/N surprises him with a Christmas stocking full of really thoughtful items and his Christmas gift ect and he is touched by how well you know him and how excited you are to give him his gifts that he tears up out of happiness and says screw it goes to the closet pulls out a ring box and proposes to you (like he had it already hit was going to wait for another time but in the heat of the moment he was so touched he couldn't wait to make you his wife)
You were honestly glad when Kayce told you his family didn't do big Christmas gifts. Ever since his mother died, it was even rare for the whole family to be at the house on Christmas Day. Similar to this Christmas, where it was only Kayce, Tate, John, and you for Christmas morning. Beth and Rip were at their cabin and would be here for lunch.
With Tate being eight, the morning started a little after six when he woke you and Kayce up by jumping on the bed. By seven thirty, all the presents were open. You had fixed yourself a cup of coffee and were walking back into the living room. John was in the corner with Tate, showing him how to thread the new bow and arrow set he had given his grandson.
You received a lovely set of earrings from John. There was some thought put behind them, surprising you. Kayce had given you a new cowboy hat to wear. It was mahogany with a leather strand around it and your initials branded under the rim. It was expensive, you knew that, but you were in love with it.
You had gotten John a framed map of Montana from the early 1800s. You had found it up in Kalispell this summer when you were visiting your sister. Tate was easy...a few new dinosaur books and a chess set, with a promise to teach him how to play. Kayce though, hadn't opened your gifts yet.
You grabbed his stocking by the fireplace, stuffed full of items. Instead of one main gift, you had decided on filling Kayce's stocking with smaller items that held more meaning to them. Speaking of, Kayce's eyes had been following you ever since you walked back into the room. You smiled at him as you made your way, holding out his stocking for him to take. You settled next to him, kicking your feet underneath you and taking a sip of your coffee.
"What's this?" Kayce smiled at you.
"Don't know," you shrugged.
"Mmhmm," Kayce smirked as he sat the stocking on his lap and opened up the top more.
Kayce reached in and pulled out the first item. It was two pairs of warm socks, knitted by you. You were constantly worried about Kayce having to be outside for his job in the elements. And while he may say he was fine, at nights when he would cuddle up to you, his feet were always freezing. One pair was green, the other red...Kayce's two favorite colors.
"Did you do these?" He asked you, though his eyes told you he already knew.
"Yeah," You nodded.
"Thank you," Kayce told you with a loving look on his face.
"There's more," You giggled.
Kayce reached back inside the stocking and pulled out a small box. Opening it he saw the necklace you had bought him. It had Saint Martin Caballero on the small, gold pendant. Kayce looked at it for a second and then glanced at you.
"The Patron Saint of Cowboys," You told him softly. "Because God knows what trouble you get into on a daily basis...this way at least someone is watching over you."
Kayce rubbed your leg as he leaned over and pressed a kiss to your cheek.
"Thanks, baby," Kayce whispered.
"A few more," You nodded your head toward his stocking.
Kayce pulled out a new bottle of your favorite cologne of his and then a new belt. His two belts he alternated were about to fall apart and you had enough of him telling you he was going to get a new one. Similar to your hat, you had, KD, branded small on the end of the belt.
"One more," You whispered.
"You've done enough," Kayce looked at you. "Seriously, Y/N..."
"Just the right amount," You smiled at him, nudging his arm. "Come on."
Kayce reached in and pulled out a roll of 52 small envelopes. They were tied with a red string, making Kayce look up at you for more information.
"Fifty-two letters...one for each Monday morning when you're making your coffee," You told him.
"What are they of?" Kayce asked you.
"Just...little love notes," You shrugged. "Just telling you how much I love you at the start of your week."
Kayce stared at the letters for a few seconds. You could tell he was thinking hard about something. You sat your mug down on the coffee table and rubbed Kayce's arm holding the letters. Kayce looked over at you and it was as if seeing you made something in him click.
"Fuck it," Kayce pushed everything to the side and stood up quickly.
You watched him walk swiftly out of the room and then up the stairs. Your eyes looked over to see Tate looking after his dad but John looking at you.
"What was that?" You asked him.
"No idea," John turned when you all heard Kayce's footsteps again coming down the stairs.
Kayce walked back into the room and over to where you were. But instead of sitting down next to you, he kneeled in front of you. You were giving him a weird look until you saw him hold a small, black box between his hands. There weren't too many things that came in small, black boxes like that one.
"Kayce..." You breathed out.
"I-I wasn't gonna do this today," Kayce cleared his throat. "But you...your gifts...your thoughtfulness about me and watching you with my son this morning...I don't think I can wait anymore."
"Dad?" Tate took a step but John pulled him back to stand next to where John was sitting.
"Y/N..." Kayce smiled up at you. "I love you...more than the moon and stars."
You felt your breath get caught in your throat.
"I've loved you for longer than I've known you actually..." He chuckled. "Just wasn't ever brave enough...still ain't brave enough to give you what you deserve, but I promise to love you better than any man ever could."
You blinked slowly as you stared at Kayce.
"I want to do everything...with you," Kayce said. "I want to live life, with you. I want to grow our family, with you. I want you...every day, every hour, every minute...and even though that still ain't enough for me, it's what I'll learn to live with."
You let out a short giggle as tears welled up in your eyes.
"I know I'm not perfect," Kayce shook his head. "I know our life has...challenges...but I know with you by my side then there ain't anything we can't figure out...so...if you'd be so kind and make me the happiest man, by saying yes...to marrying me?"
Kayce opened the box and a beautiful diamond ring set in a gold band glimmered back at you. You felt a warm tear roll down your cheek as you smiled brightly at Kayce.
"Yes," You nodded your head as you leaned closer. "A million times, yes."
You and Kayce met for a kiss, sealing an agreement the two of you probably established a long time ago within your hearts. You parted and let Kayce slide the ring on your fingers as Tate was finally allowed to race over. John stood up and walked over while you kissed Kayce again before letting Kayce look at the ring. John clapped Kayce's back as the two of you stood up.
"Congrats, sweetheart," John kissed your cheek. "Welcome to the family."
Tate hugged your middle tightly as you laughed, leaning into Kayce as you looked down at the ring again. Your eyes met Kayce's caramel ones and you shook your head.
"You just had to beat me, didn't you?" You giggled.
"Yeah," Kayce winked. "Ain't ever letting you win, baby."
