Request - Can you do one where Kayce and Tate are Christmas shopping and Y/N over hears them? Super cute!
You had to do a double take from where you stood next to the winter coats. Blinking a few times, you confirmed it. That was Kayce and Tate who walked into the store. You smiled, pushing your cart over to the aisle you saw them go down. But you halted the brakes when you saw it was the women's tops aisle. Why would Kayce and Tate be going down this one?
More importantly, why were Kayce and Tate here when just this morning you asked if they wanted to run errands with you this afternoon?
You pushed your cart over, so it wasn't blocking the aisle and leaned your head so you could look down it to where Kayce and Tate now stood. They were staring at something, talking too low for you to hear anything. Sighing, you pushed your cart to walk down the next over aisle. When you got to where you thought they were you listened closely.
"Dad, no!" Tate whined. "She doesn't like green."
"What do you mean?" Kayce said. "Y/N loves green."
"You love green," Tate said. "Y/N likes purple and blues."
You smiled at how Tate knew your favorite colors.
"Well, they don't have those colors," Kayce said, and you could hear the annoyance in his voice. "They have green, orange, and yellow...and I know Y/N hates yellow."
That was true, you smiled and leaned in closer.
"We should have come earlier," Tate said. "I told you so."
"Hey," Kayce snapped, and you had to cover your mouth to keep you from snorting. "Some of us have jobs."
"Maybe we should go to a different store?" Tate asked.
"This is the only one that has sweaters," Kayce said. "It's too late to drive to Dillon or Bozeman."
You smiled. Kayce remembered you telling him you needed a new sweater. A nicer one, that you could wear to lunches or to church, just something nicer than your work scrubs or a button-down. That was a few weeks ago and even you had sort of forgotten about it. But here Kayce was, Tate with him, picking out a Christmas gift for you.
"Well, what should we do?" Tate asked.
"I like Y/N in green," Kayce said.
"But it's not her favorite color," Tate whined.
"I know," Kayce said. "But I think she looks pretty in green...don't that count for something?"
You made a mental note to wear a little more green soon.
"But that means it's from you then," Tate said. "What about me?"
"Pick something else out for her then," Kayce said.
You panicked, thinking there was no way for you to not see them if you stayed there. And Kayce was too adorable in this gift picking outing that you didn't have the heart to tell him you overheard. You decided to be an annoying person and leave your cart where it was, turning quickly and hightailing it out of there. You got to your car and shut the door behind you in a huff. Starting your car, you called Kayce to help cover your track.
"Hey baby," Kayce's voice came through your speakers.
"Hey, what are you doing?" You asked him, trying to sound normal.
"I uh...actually ended up taking Tate into town," Kayce said.
"You did?" You asked. "For what?"
"Just some things needed on the ranch," Kayce answered. "Where are you?"
"About to drive past Dave's," You lied, pulling out of the parking lot.
"Have you eaten?" Kayce asked.
"Not yet," You said. "Wanna meet me?"
"Sure, see you in a bit," Kayce said.
You pulled into a spot and walked into the small sandwich shop. Sitting down, you ordered yourself and Kayce a tea and Tate a lemonade. A few minutes later, your boys walked in. Tate ran over to your side of the booth and slid in.
"Hey, buddy," You wrapped an arm around him and squeezed.
"Hey," Kayce said as he sat down across from you.
"Hi there," You smiled. "Glad you two decided to come out."
"Needed things for the ranch," Tate said.
You smirked, betting that Kayce grilled that into Tate's head before they walked in.
"Well, thank goodness the ranch has the two of you," You laughed.
You reached your other hand under the table and scratched at Kayce's knee. He quickly laced your fingers together as he looked over his menu.
"What sounds good?" You asked Tate.
"Pizza," Tate didn't even look at the menu.
"Tate," You scrunched your nose. "This place doesn't do pizza."
"It's on the menu," Tate pointed.
"Yeah, but it's a frozen box slice," You stuck your tongue out. "You could get a grilled cheese if you have to have cheese."
"With fries?" He asked.
"If I can have one?" You winked.
"Deal," Tate nodded.
The waited came up and took down Tate's grilled cheese, Kayce's fries and your potato soup. When he walked away you looked at Kayce with a smile.
"Any other errands for you?" You asked him.
"Nah, we're done," Kayce shook his head. "You?"
"I need to go grab a new coat still," you said. "I've waited too long now though the good ones are probably taken."
"We'll go with you," Kayce said.
"You don't have to," You smiled. "It's at the store you don't like because...what did you call it? Too girly for you?"
"I didn't say that," Kayce rolled his eyes. "But it does have a lot of pink, babe."
"Mmm," You nodded. "The dreaded, horrible pink. At least it's not my favorite color."
"What is your favorite color?" Tate asked but it was almost like a challenge to Kayce.
"Well, I like a couple of them I guess," You said.
"Which ones?" Tate pressed.
"Well, I love purple," You said and Tate smirked at his dad. "I love blues, dark and light...and you know, I kind of like green a little more these days."
"Green?" Tate almost looked disgusted.
Kayce on the other hand looked like he just shot a ten-point buck.
"What's wrong with green?" You asked Tate.
"Nothing...I just...green is Dad's favorite color," Tate frowned as the food was brought.
"Does that mean I can't like it?" You laughed. "I certainly like your dad in green."
"See, son," Kayce took one of Tate's fries. "You need to remember that I know everything."
You laughed out loud at that.
"Come on, Dad," Tate giggled.
"Just saying," Kayce smirked.
You rolled your eyes but settled in with your late lunch with your boys.
