Request - I'd like to request a part 2 for Why Do You Care? Maybe where Kayce and her run into each other again by accident, the divorce is final and they get to talking. He ends up asking her out and she accepts.
You missed the summer. Sure, you loved winter and snow, but when it was eleven degrees out and you had to make a run for gas tanks for your grill, you missed the summer.
You pushed your cart down the aisle and stopped to look at the gloves. The old pair you had had for years finally unraveled last weekend and you had yet to get a new pair. picking up some tan ones you flipped them over when you heard a voice you somewhat recognized.
"Come on, Dad!"
"Stop rushing me."
You looked up and saw Kayce and Tate headed down your aisle. You hadn't seen them in about three months since the fair. Tate looked up at you and stopped, a large smile on his face.
"Y/N!" Tate said.
You were honestly surprised the kid remembered you at all.
Your eyes glanced up to Kayce who seemed just as surprised as you were.
"Hey," You gave them a warm smile.
"Hey," Kayce and Tate walked over to you. "What are you doing here?"
"Gloves," You held up the pair in your hand. "You?"
"Boots," Kayce nodded to Tate.
"How are you, Tate?" You asked him.
"Good," Tate smiled.
"Haven't run off again?" You winked at him to let him know you were joking.
"Haven't needed to." Tate shook his head.
"Oh?" You asked.
"Nope," Tate's smile grew as if he was proud. "My parents got divorced."
"Tate," Kayce kicked him gently behind the leg.
You let out an uncomfortable giggle.
"Go start looking at the boots for your size," Kayce nudged him forward.
"Bye, Y/N," Tate waved as he walked on.
"Bye, Tate." You called out before looking up at Kayce.
"Sorry," Kayce said and you could tell he was embarrassed. "He's...they don't really teach you things like that."
"Things like what?" You asked softly, feeling calm as you stood there with him.
"How to teach your son to tell people his parents aren't married anymore," Kayce shrugged. "Probably ain't a good starter."
"Well, it's...impactful, that's for sure," You smiled. "Though I guess I should still say, sorry?"
"Don't," Kayce shook his head. "It needed to happen and it was happening when we met...just was official a few weeks ago."
"How are you?" You asked before you could stop yourself.
"I'm okay," Kayce nodded. "How's...teaching?"
"They're already ready for Christmas break," You sighed. "It's a rough year."
"Already?" Kayce asked.
"It's just...it's not like it was when we were in high school," You shrugged. "Times are different...kids are different now."
"I get that." Kayce nodded. "I'm sure you're great with them."
