Request- could we get Kayce's side of dropping Evelyn off at kindergarten?
Author's Note - Took this a did a little spin on it :)
"I don't see why I have to go to school, Daddy," Evelyn said from the backseat of Kayce's truck.
"'Cause you're perfectly healthy, darlin'," Kayce yawned while he drove into town from the ranch.
He had made sure Oakley and Lee were both tucked into their big bed before he grabbed Evelyn and got her ready for school. The stomach bug had taken Tate and Oakley out last night and Lee woke up sick too.
Kayce would have been just fine keeping everyone home, but Oakley had pushed him and Evelyn out, not wanting her to miss school if she didn't have to.
"Can't I just go to work with you?" Evelyn tried again.
"No, baby," Kayce smiled. "You don't get to go to work until after you go through school."
"Not fair," Evelyn huffed, crossing her little arms.
"That's life," Kayce turned into the parking lot. "Sometimes things don't go the way we want them to go."
Kayce pulled into a spot, already being a little late due to the morning. He got out and opened the back door, Evelyen grabbing her small pink camo backpack. She hopped down onto the ground and pushed her hair out of her eyes.
"Let's sign you in," Kayce held his hand out for Evelyn as they both walked into the school.
Getting into the office, Kayce and Evelyn waited behind another dad dropping off lunch and a mom signing in one of the older kids. Evelyn leaned against Kayce's leg as they waited.
"Yes, sir?" The receptionist looked at Kayce.
"Uh...this is Evelyn Dutton," Kayce glanced at his daughter. "We're late."
"Not my fault," Evelyn piped up.
"Hey," Kayce eyed her.
"It's not," Evelyn frowned at her dad.
"She's good to go, Mr. Dutton," The receptionist nodded her head. "I think you're class is already in the gymnasium, Evelyn."
"Okay...where is that?" Kayce asked, feeling a blush cross his cheeks.
"Come on, Daddy," Evelyn pulled Kayce's arm.
She led him down one of the hallways to two metal doors. When they got to the doors, Evelyn dropped Kayce's hand and turned to face him.
"What?" Kayce smirked.
"You signed me in, right?" Evelyn's eyes were big.
"Yeah?" Kayce nodded.
"So I'm here?" Evelyn thought.
"If by here you mean school?" Kayce wondered where she was going.
"But if I went to work with you, then would I still be here?" Evelyn asked.
Kayce was shocked by how smart her plan actually was.
"If you don't get your behind in there..." Kayce shook his head.
"But they think I'm here!" Evelyn cried. "No one would know!"
"Your Momma would know," Kayce laughed. "The second we got home today she would have both of our hides."
"Argh," Evelyn sighed and Kayce kneeled in front of her.
"Go to school," Kaye pulled her closer to him. "Learn lots, and I'll pick you up this afternoon, okay?"
