Request - Could you write one where Kayce leaves in the morning and you can tell he's sick but he fights you and is stubborn? And then comes home and is worse so you scold him but then eventually take care of him?
You eyed Kayce as you took a sip of your coffee. He had woken up coughing, but his eyes are what told you that he didn't feel good. They were always the thing that told you how Kayce truly felt. And right now? Kayce was sick.
"I'll uh..." Kayce cleared his throat. "Be back later."
"You sure you don't want to stay here today?" You asked softly.
"What do you mean?" Kayce put his hat on his head.
"You don't feel well," You nodded toward him.
"I'm fine," Kayce grunted.
"You're not fine," You rolled your eyes.
Kayce sent you a look before grabbing his coffee tumbler and walking over to you. He kissed your cheek and then headed to the front door. You sighed, loud enough for him to hear. Kayce looked over his shoulder at you.
"You're sick," You said.
Kayce shook his head and walked out.
**
It was almost eight when you saw headlights flash inside the foreman's cabin. You were sitting next to the fire with your book out. Looking at the door, you saw Kayce step inside. He got two steps in before he sneezed.
You winced, closing your book and watching him take off his coat and hat. He looked worse than he did this morning. He moved into the center of the room and stopped when he saw you. His eyes were cloudy as he stared back at you.
"I'm sick," He said.
"What makes you say that?" You asked with a smirk.
"Y/N," Kayce sighed.
"Because we know it can't be your girlfriend telling you earlier," You stood up and sat the blanket that had been around you back on the couch.
"Can we not do this, baby?" Kayce said, rubbing his face.
You frowned, walking over to him.
"Think it's a cold?" You asked.
"I don't know," Kayce shrugged. "My head is killing me and I'm just achy all over."
"Kayce," You said gently, resting your hand on his chest. "How about a hot shower and I'll make you some of the leftover stew?"
"Will you join me in the shower?" Kayce smiled down at you.
"Even when you're sick..." You mumbled. "No, now go."
You gently pushed him toward the bathroom. While Kayce took a shower you heated up and stew dinner you made the night before. It was getting colder in Montana and this would warm Kayce up immediately.
You heard the bedroom door shut and looked over your shoulder. Kayce walked out in sweats and a hoodie. His damp hair was pushed back as he sat down at the small table. You walked over and sat his bowl down, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
"Eat this," You told him.
"Thank you," Kayce mumbled, grabbing his spoon.
You cleaned up and kitchen and living room area while Kayce finished his supper. After he sneezed the fourth time though, you looked at him from where you stood next to the couch. Walking into the bathroom, you looked for some cough medicine. Grabbing the bottle you walked out to Kayce placing his bowl in the dishwasher.
"Here," You handed him the bottle.
"I don't need this," Kayce said.
"Take the medicine, Kayce," You placed your hands on your hips.
"Y/N-"
"Kayce," You snapped.
Kayce sighed, unscrewing the bottle and taking a swing.
"Kayce!" You cried. "Gross, use a spoon. You're sick."
"I ain't sick," Kayce coughed. "Fuck that taste like horse shit."
He sat the bottle down on the counter.
"You're ridiculous," You shook your head. "Come on, let's go to bed."
"Fine," Kayce walked around you.
You eyed him with a frown, knowing that for him to go to bed this early meant he wasn't feeling good at all. Following him into the bedroom you helped Kayce get under the covers. Once settled, he looked up at you.
"Where are you going?" Kayce asked you.
"Well, to take a shower and then come to bed?" You laughed. "Why?"
"Just get in here with me," Kayce pulled your side of the covers back.
"I will when it's bedtime," You joked. "You need to rest some."
"I can rest with you," Kayce argued.
"No, you really can't," You laughed.
Reaching down you smoothed his hair back from his forehead. His sickie eyes looked back up at you and even though he didn't feel good, you thought he was
"Oh, baby," You smiled at him. "You really don't feel good, do you?"
Kayce sighed and you watched his final wall come down.
"No," He blinked back up at you.
Leaning down you kissed his forehead again.
"Try and get some sleep," You told him. "I'm gonna take a shower and then I'll come cuddle with you."
But by the time you walked back into the bedroom after your shower, Kayce was passed out on his pillow snoring slightly.
**
It was close to nine before Kayce walked out of the bedroom the next morning. You were sipping your coffee as you looked over the news on your tablet.
"Good morning," You smiled at him.
"Morning," Kayce yawned. "You didn't wake me."
"You needed sleep," You told him.
"I have work," Kayce sighed.
"I called in and told them you were taking a much-needed sick day to rest up," You sat your coffee mug down.
"I don't need-"
"Are we really gonna do this again?" You raised your eyebrow at him.
Kayce took a long breath.
"Take a day and rest, baby," You smiled at him. "Just sit by the fire, drink some coffee, and relax."
Kayce stared at you for a moment before walking over to the coffee and pouring him a mug. You watched him come sit next to you at the small kitchen table.
He took a long sip of his coffee and sighed as he brought the mug down on the table. You scooted your tablet over so Kayce could look at what you were reading up on. The tow of you sat there for a few minutes.
The rest of the day consisted of you and Kayce lounging around the small cabin. You did some laundry while Kayce watched a movie, breaking only for some lunch in the late afternoon. Around five or so, you walked over to where Kayce was sitting on the couch and snuggled up to him.
"How are you feeling?" You asked.
"Better," Kayce said.
"Really?" You acted surprised. "Huh...would that be because you were sick?"
"I ain't sick," Kayce said.
"Now, you ain't sick now," You laughed. "Maybe you should listen to me more and you might feel better faster?"
Kayce smirked at you.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," Kayce chuckled.
You rested your head against his shoulder, wrapping your arms around his as the two of you settled back for another lazy evening.
