Request - One with Tate :)

Author's Note - How about a little bit of everything with Tate :)

You and Tate had a special relationship. You weren't his mother, and he wasn't your son...but you'd argue that what you held with the kid ran even deeper than those types of relationships at times.

You first met Tate when he was five.

You and Kayce had been seeing each other for about three months and he asked if you'd like to meet his son. You thought it was precious he asked you if you wanted to meet him. It was a warm spring day, you and Kayce walked over to the barn where Tate was leaning against the fence next to John.

"Tate," Kayce called out, placing his hand on your lower back as you both stopped walking. "This is my friend, Y/N."

"Hi, Tate," You gave him a warm smile. "It's nice to meet you."

"Hi," Tate's eyes were big as he looked up at you from where he held onto the fence. "Dad? Grandpa said here in a few years I can have my own horse."

"Dad," Kayce looked at his father you simply shrugged.

"What type do you want?" You asked Tate.

"Uh..." Tate was surprised you kept your focus on him. "I don't know?"

"Well your first horse is a big deal," You stepped over and leaned against the fence next to Tate. "And what's even more important is the name you give it."

"I already have the name!" Tate smiled at you.

"Hit me with it," You told him.

"Lucky," Tate nodded.

"That's a great name," You smiled. "You have to find the perfect horse if you're gonna name it Lucky."

"How do I find the perfect horse?" Tate asked you, now thoroughly interested in you.

"Don't worry, you'll know," You winked at Tate. "My first horse actually picked me, not the other way around."

The rest of the day was spent talking horse with Tate.

As he grew up, Tate learned you were an Anthropologist by education. When he found bones in his mother's front yard, you were his first phone call. The two of you spent about six months excavating the bones and that's when your bonding solidified.

About two months into the excavation, you came home to Kayce one night. He smiled and walked over to you as you hung up your coat.

"I'm dirty," You warned him.

"I like you dirty," Kayce mumbled as he pulled you closer.

"Such a man," You giggled as Kayce pressed a few kisses to your cheek.

"How was my son?" Kayce's lips brushed against your skin.

"Good," You nodded and then got a little shy. "I'm really enjoying doing this with him...he's a great kid."

"He can't stop talking about it and you," Kayce smiled. "When I picked him up from school the other day he wouldn't shut up about you the whole drive here."

"I really like him," You nodded, being serious. "Thanks for...letting me spend time with him."

"Let you?" Kayce tilted his head. "Baby, this is what I've wished for."

"You have?" You asked.

"The two people I love enjoying each other?" Kayce smirked. "Yeah."
