Request - Can we get one where you and Kayce are in a argument and you're really mad and just yelling (pretty mean stuff but also just like yelling in general) and you don't realize Kayce shutting down or starting to look timid or scared (you are reminding him of how is dad and/or Monica used to get mad and yell at him and hit him) until you get really close to him and rise your hand (just to move a hair or something) but he flinched away and then you notice how scared he looks but he tries to deny it. But the rest of the day even after you apologize you noticed he's still acting timid around you.

"Honestly, what was going through your head?" You asked Kayce.

He didn't answer you. He hadn't really answered you for the past ten minutes now. But you were on a role, and he had kept you up all night waiting with anxiety. He had gone out on a call, then never came back. This morning you watched the news tell you there had been a shootout, multiple officers hit and four dead. A trailer had exploded, and still Kayce didn't answer your phone calls.

He finally came back home, covered in dirt and blood. He didn't speak to you as he walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. He was about to walk in when you stepped in front of him and finally let him have it.

That was about fifteen minutes ago. You were so angry, stemming from how scared you had been. But Kayce's lack of communication was worrisome in and of itself. So, you let him have it. You threw up every thought that came to your mind.

"Do you like putting people through this?" You asked him. "Do you like making me feel this way?"

He still didn't answer you. His eyes were dull now as he looked at the ground. You could see a bandage over his left shoulder now, scared to look underneath the fabric and see what happened.

"Kayce!" You cried, stepping toward him. "Do something! Say something!"

His eyes looked into yours and you saw nothing behind them except this...fear. You were breathing hard but finally dropped your shoulders. Reaching up, you went to push some of your hair out of your face.

Kayce jerked back, making you pause with your fingers in your hair. His eyes looked down and there was almost an embarrassed look about him now.

He flinched though. Kayce flinched away from you.

It was like everything else cleared away from you now. You could suddenly hear the water from the shower again, feel the steam around you and the cool tile under your feet. But nothing took away from you staring at Kayce.

Did he...did he honestly think you were going to hit him?

"Kayce..." You whispered softly.

He stepped back and cleared his throat. You stood there, taking a deep breath. He needed a shower but more importantly, you recognized he needed to have some space from you. You turned slowly and walked out of the room, rolling the door shut behind you.

**

For the rest of the day, Kayce avoided you. Not that you made it difficult for him. You stayed in the living room mostly, sitting on the couch and reading. Your heart hurt from Kayce ever thinking you would do something like that to him. Sure, you were angry, but it came from a place of worry.

Footsteps made you look over your shoulder. Kayce stood behind the couch, his hands in his pockets. He was clean, but there was a nice bruise under his right eye.

"Hey," You said, barely above a whisper.

"You hungry?" Kayce asked, his voice rough.

"Um," You put your book down. "Sure."

Kayce waited for you to stand up and walk around the couch. You stopped a foot away from him though. He still looked timid to you, his eyes seemed to still be watching your movements.

"Kayce?" You asked as he stepped away.

He looked back at you.

"Earlier," You said. "In the bathroom...you...did you think..."

You didn't even want to ask you were so upset with the fact. Kayce faced you once again and waited.

"You didn't think I was going to...hit you, did you?" You winced.

A look crossed his face. You weren't sure if he was upset because it was true, or because you had caught on to him.

"I knew you wouldn't," Kayce said, sticking his hands in his pockets. "I just...I don't know."

"I'm sorry I yelled," You said, trying to figure out how to apologize for something you weren't going to ever do. "I just got so scared and then you came home but didn't say anything."

"Didn't know what to say," Kayce sighed.

"Telling me you were alright would have been a nice start," You offered.

Kayce blinked back at you.

"I'm alright," He said.

"Except you thought your girlfriend was going to hit you," You frowned.

"It was the heat of the moment," Kayce shook his head. "We were both exhausted. I know I had upset you...I knew you were disappointed...I just didn't know what to say so I guess I thought not saying anything would hurt you the least."

"I don't like that, but I understand it," You nodded.

"I gave you some space today because I thought you wanted it," Kayce added.

"What I want is for you to never think I'd hit you," You said.

Kayce let a small smile tug on the corner of his lips. It was the first positive sign from him in the past twenty-four hours.

"You're gonna be stuck on that for a while, huh?" He asked.

"I think it screwed with me more than you not talking to me," You nodded.

Kayce sighed, pulling his hands from his pockets and stepped closer to you. He reached up and cupped your cheek with his hand. His palm was warm against your skin. You held onto his wrist as you looked into his eyes.

"I'm sorry," He said. "What happened last night was awful and something I ain't proud of. I don't like telling you the bad because I don't want you to think I am the bad."

"I don't, Kayce," You shook your head. "Quite the opposite, actually."

"I'm seeing that now," He said.

"I'm sorry I yelled and got so angry," You told him.

It was silent for a few seconds between the two of you. You looked up at Kayce and slowly leaned in, kissing him softly on the lips. His other hand came up to hold both sides of your face as he kissed you back. He rested his forehead against yours as the kiss ended.

"I'm here to help you," You said softly. "Especially with the bad things."

"Okay," Kayce nodded.

You smiled at him and stepped back, lacing your fingers through his and leading him into the kitchen. After supper, some definite healing between the two of you was in order.
