Request - song "All that I Wanted" by Daisy Briggs
Author's Note – switched this up a little bit 😊
I knew what I was getting into so I set the bar real low
Then you went and did things a little different
And it gave me a shot of hope
"But you hate cowboys?" Your sister laughed across the table.
You had just told her about being introduced to Kayce Dutton the other night. For some reason, you hadn't been able to get the guy off your mind. He was charming, a little moody, and completely addicting.
"I hate what cowboys can do to girls like me," You corrected.
"The hell does that mean?" She laughed.
"I don't know," You shrugged. "He seemed different."
"In what way?" She asked.
"He...seemed interested," You swallowed. "Like genuinely, not in the shitty boy way they usually are."
"Be careful," Your sister shook her head. "He's a Dutton."
Started calling when I thought you wouldn't
caught me by surprise
But that only lasted a second til you got bored and changed your mind
You pulled your phone out, not looking, and answered it.
"Hello?" You said.
"Hi.." Kayce replied.
Instantly your insides turned to mush.
"Hi," You sat down and smiled like a fool.
"Happy Birthday," Kayce said.
"Thanks," You felt your cheeks warm.
You and Kayce had only been "talking" for a week or so. You figured your birthday wasn't even on his radar so you were very surprised to hear him not only say something, but know that it was your birthday.
"How did you know?" You asked him.
"I have my ways, darlin'," Kayce chuckled.
all that I wanted
Since we parted
Was a little respect
Instead what I got is
Seeing you flaunting
Girls like we never met I can't change it I can't make this
Dream I had come true 'cause all that i wanted if i'm honest was you
"Don't say it," You mumbled to your sister.
The two of you were at the park, sitting on one of the benches having an ice cream cone. She had treated you to an ice cream every Friday for the past three weeks since Kayce had ended things with you. It had only been three months, but damn had you fallen for him hard. The breakup was sudden and brutal, Kayce cutting you out from every avenue toward him.
But seeing him walk down the street with a pretty blonde just about did your wounded heart in. You couldn't see her real well, but the sun dress she had on looked more expensive than your entire outfit and boots. You looked at your half eaten cone, not having the stomach to finish it.
