Request - Reader is looking into insurance and Kayce says let's get married I have great insurance.

A tap on your car window made you jump slightly. Kayce was smirking on the other side as you rolled your window down.

"What're you doing here?" You laughed.

"Had to run to the office," Kayce took his hat off and leaned in for a kiss.

"Do you have time for lunch?" You asked as you ran your hand down his arm resting on your window.

"Uh..." Kayce glanced at the time on your dashboard. "A quick one?"

"Let's go," You rolled the window up and turned your car off.

Stepping out, Kayce wrapped his arm around your shoulders as you walked across the street into one of the restaurants. After getting seated and ordering, you smiled across at Kayce.

"What're you doing over here?" Kayce asked you.

"Honestly? I was going to see about finding a better insurance. My coverage is just...well it's shit, and there's not too many options in town," You shrugged. "So, I was going to see if Brad Wayman's father was decent...it's like they want to punish me for being a single female."

"You ain't single," Kayce eyed you.

"I am in insurance world," You giggled, moving your hands as the waitress sat your plates down.

"I have good insurance," Kayce shrugged, biting into one of his fries.

"You have the ranch," You nodded. "Of course, y'all have good insurance...probably the best in the whole state."

"Then come be on ours," Kayce said.

"I can't," You chewed a bite of your sandwich. "I'm not an employee nor am I a Dutton."

"Then marry me," Kayce smiled through his bite.

You blinked a few times, looking at Kayce from across the booth. Was he being serious or was he joking? All you've only wanted for the past three years is for him to ask you to marry him, but surly not...in this old diner on a random Tuesday at lunch.

"Y/N..." Kayce sat his food down and reached across. "You know I'm kidding, baby."

"Oh, right," You shifted your arms back, out of his reach and took a sip of your water. "Yeah...I don't know what I'll do. But I'll figure it out."

"Y/N..." Kayce frowned.

"How was the morning at the office?" You decided to push forward, not wanting to be embarrassed or think about your future with Kayce right now.

"It was...fine," Kayce raised an eyebrow, seeing right through you. "I've got to run out to the res to pick up Tate tomorrow afternoon...we've got him for the week."

"Nice," You nodded, even though usually you were very excited when Tate would be there as you simply adored the little kid.

"Yeah, thinking we could take him finishing a few times?" Kayce said.

"Sure," You finished half your sandwich and couldn't eat anymore due to your throat feeling like it was closing.

The two of you finished your lunch with only a few words spoken between y'all. Kayce walked you back out to your car, his hand low on your back as you opened your door. Turning to look up at him but finding it hard to hold his eye contact.

"I'll see you tonight?" Kayce asked.

"Um, I might have dinner with my sister tonight," You shrugged.

"Then come up to the ranch after," Kayce leaned his hand against your car.

"Might be too late," You held some of your hair back from the wind. "I've got Melanie's bridal lunch tomorrow too in town so I might just stay at my place."

"You want me to come to your place tonight?" Kayce asked, his eyes looked soft now.

"I don't know when diner will be done," You shrugged.

"That's not what I asked," Kayce sighed. "Y/N...I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable back there with my comment. I didn't mean it that way."

"No, you're right," You shook your head. "It was a joke; I get it now."

"Not a joke like that," Kayce reached out and took over from your hand of holding back your hair. "I was kidding about the conversation...obviously you can't marry me just for insurance purposes alone."

"I know," You nodded slowly as Kayce stepped closer.

"I wasn't joking about marrying you," He said softly. "I wouldn't joke about something that I want to happen."

"You...want to happen?" You asked.

"You think I don't want to marry you?" Kayce laughed, reaching his other hand to cup both of your cheeks.

"Well...we haven't really talked in detail about it," You shrugged. "Sure, we've mentioned things occasionally, but..."

"Sometimes you drive me mad," Kayce whispered before his lips pressed into yours for a deep kiss.

You fisted his shirt, tugging Kayce closer as the kiss ended.

"I want to marry you one day, Y/N," Kayce said. "I just want you to want to marry me...I know I'm not easy...that my family isn't easy."

"I'm not marrying your family," You smiled.

"But you would be," Kayce nodded.

You reached up and pulled Kayce's lips back to your for a few seconds.

"No, I'd be marrying you," You mumbled against his lips before pulling back. "I would help you deal with your family."

"I like the sound of that," Kayce chuckled. "And I like that smile on your face now."

"Sorry," You giggled. "I guess I was more sensitive of the subject than I thought."

"I'll remember that," Kayce's thumb rubbed under your cheek. "I gotta head out...can I please stay with you tonight?"

"I'll come to the ranch," You stepped into his arms, your chin resting on his chest so you could look up. "I never really liked Melanie to being with. I don't need to sit there in a dress for three hours and listen to her talk about her ring."

"You can come with me to pick up Tate," Kayce pulled your waist into his.

"Perfect," You smiled. "Thank you."

"Love you," Kayce leaned down for one more kiss.
