Request - Y/n and Kacey end up breaking up because she's constantly on him (like definitely the problem) not trusting him just always picking fights. She's heartbroken and works really hard on herself to prove to him they love each other.

You shifted in your seat at the diner. You hadn't been here since you were a kid, but it hadn't changed much. On a random Thursday afternoon, you were the only person there, seated in the back in one of the booths. The waitress brought you your hot tea and lemon, you needed something to help warm up your insides. The wind was howling right now, bringing in the first nasty cold front of the year for western Montana.

The door opened, bringing in a rush of cold air. You looked over your shoulder and saw your ex-boyfriend. He looked the same, maybe his hair was slightly longer. But his golden eyes met yours and you felt your heart stop for a second. Kayce walked slowly back to where you were, sliding into the booth opposite from you. You pulled your mug closer to you as you looked at him.

"Hi."

Well, he was speaking to you at least.

"Hi," You cleared your throat. "I didn't know what you'd like to drink."

"I'm good," Kayce shook his head.

"It's freezing," You glanced out the window.

"Roads will be bad tomorrow," Kayce nodded, looking out the window as well. "Are you still out off Copper Creek?"

"No," You shook your head. "I moved closer to town...off Epperson and Elm."

"Really?" Kayce asked. "Closer to town?"

"Yeah," You nodded. "It's...not as long of a drive to work."

"You hate town though," Kayce said.

"I do," You nodded. "But it was just me all the way out there and it didn't make sense with working for the library, to drive in and out every day."

"Sure," Kayce said softly. "Uh...how are you?"

"Fine," You answered. "How are you? You look...good."

"So do you," Kayce's eyes dipped as low as they could go with you in a booth before meeting your eyes again. "Maybe a little skinny."

"How's the job?" You ignored his last comment. "I see you in the paper off and on."

"Job's fine," Kayce nodded. "Hard...but good."

"It seems to suit you," You offered him a small smile.

"I don't know," Kayce shrugged. "It's...different."

"What do you mean, different?" You asked.

"I uh..." Kayce almost looked like he didn't want to answer. "I ain't my father."

"Well, no," You smiled. "But that's a good thing, Kayce."

Kayce blinked back at you.

"Sorry," You suddenly felt like maybe Kayce didn't like you saying that to him for some reason. "Not that you're father wasn't...good at the job."
